m-ITX motherboard + h60 clearance
Hi, thanks in advance,
Components chosen: PSU: Corsair AX850 (already bought) CPU: i5 2500k SB (already bought) Ram: Corsair Vegeane 2x4 1600Mhz LowProfile Blue (already bought) GPU: To be decided (580 Lightning most likely, buying from a friend) CPU-cooling: Corsair H60 /w BeQuiet Shadow Wings High Speed @ 2200 RPM Case: Lian Li PC-Q08 Black (not SUGO 8, becuase Lian Li is lighter, more robust and I had a full side PSU at hand, and slightly cause of air flow, I will remove harddrive cages). One negative side about this case, is the fact that the PSU covers 1/3 of the fan, not sure how much this'll affect the static pressure of the CPU-fan. Worst case scenario, I'll have to mount the fan on the outside Main Question: Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe or Asrock Z77E-ITX? The Asus has a daughterboard, and I simply don't know if it will give me clearance issues with the H60, attached right above it, does anyone have some insight into this? The CPU will be clocked to 4.5Ghz to start off with, and maybe more later. And even if the Asus does give clearance issues, which board would you still grab if you disassembled the daughterboard? Asus one is 25-30 euros more expensive, but have more features aswell, and I'm not entirely sure about the quality of the board in comparison to the Asrock. These were the only boards I could find

I agree with this board more. Has a much better layout for what you're planning.
EDIT: But it's give and take, you need/want better onboard sound? Upon looking the Asrock has 7.1 channel support over the Asus. |

I only use headsets, and usually not high end ones

Gave it some more thought ...
If the Asus may give you some clearance issues just go with the Asrock even though it's a piss poor layout. May save you aggravation later on. **knock on wood** I now own 2 Asrock boards and to me they run just as good as my past Gigabytes and Asus boards, touch better than DFI if they were still in the game. |

TBH, I wouldn't worry much with overclocking and even at that ... here let me have pictures speak louder ....
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpu...idge-review/13 ![]() You would be consuming near as much power as an 1100T/i7 950 @ Stock clocks. So even if you get say 4Ghz on a 2500k paired with the Asrock it would still be way more than enough for most tasks and it would consume near as much power as the i5 2400 @ 3.99Ghz. |

I have AsRock in a similar setup and I don't have any issues.

well i think a H80, Antec's 620 and 920 will fit without any problems but i am not sure, but they r around not square like the H60.
plus their r other coolers aswell like Intel, Thermaltake and Zalman that got the Asetek all-in-one hydro cooler made with a round cooler block

I have built in the Q08 before. The problem with it is that it is fucking huge for an ITX and that PSU is a touch on the large side for it. Also it is delicate with the anodizing, so is any other case but if you scratch painted steel you can just paint it... if you scratch anodozing you're kind of screwed.
If you take the hard drive out you may be ok. also, why not the TU series? dont like the handle? Not enough airflow? You will be fine with either board - i would go for the cheaper one with the most features. The 580 lightning might dump too much hot air for the chassis, so you may be better off with a stock 580 or a 670 - cards that exhaust heat from the case. 1)Its huge in comparison to shuttle's, but still the smallest m-ITX case that can inhabit a long GPU(580 lighting) and a full size ATX PSU (I can't stand not being able to choose my own PSU's, so the sugo series idea went through the window ), 21 liters volume for the PC-Q08 didn't seem to bad for me neither, considering the upcoming Prodigy will be somewher along 39 liters ![]() 2)I don't mind scratching the paint really, but when you say I'm screwed "If" I do, is that cause it'll become conductive in some sense? The aesthethic touch means nothing for me unfortunately, If I could find a cheaper/uglier case with the same requirements as above I would have gotten it ![]() 3) TU series was abit too expensive, and much more of a LAN case, I do LAN a couple of times, but not THAT much, I'l be bringing the PC over to some friends once in a while, else it's going to sit on my desk and blow hot air on me during the winther ![]() 4)The GTX 670/680 is simply too overpriced imo, I do have the budget to buy one, but it's more of a principal matter, I don't want to jump over to the darkside and overpay a graphics card for the sake of having the latest... Also the lightning runs cooler than the stocks, no? At least I figured it did, with the MSI Twin Frozr 3 cooler, in any case if heat from it becomes an issue, ill replace the front 140mm with something much better, and slightly download the card (even though I have intentions of OC'ing it aswell, now that I have the PSU for it )
