Networking Issue

I Recently build a new computer and am in the stages of updating drivers and downloading programs.
When I hooked up my ethernet cable into my motherboard (after I updated my chipset drivers) it turned orange and has been having some connectivity issues.
I am running a wired connection straight to the modem, yet it says that i am running a broadband connection, is this correct, if not what setting do I have to change in order to establish a "green" wired connection.
( I have 30mb/s down 5 mb/s up plan from charter)

Thanks,
Walrus

System Specs

Is the IP address of your NIC on the same subnet as the router?
(ie. router = 192.168.1.1 NIC = 192.168.1.2)

Yes it is, I have internet connection, but there is a orange light on the ethernet port.
Also I have updated my chipset and LAN in my motherboard and just checked in device manager and it said it was up-to-date.
