Intel NUC 4-inch Mini PC Costs $400

Intel's Next Unit of Computing (NUC) 4-inch mini-PC concept is taking shape as more of a premium mini-PC, than an affordable mainstream PC. According to sources, the NUC will arrive some time in Q3 2012, priced at US $400. The base system will be powered by a Core i3 dual-core processor paired with HM65 chipset, about 4 GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory, 40 GB mSATA SSD, HDMI, mini-DisplayPort, WiFi, and Bluetooth. The first-generation NUC hence sticks to mature previous-generation components, while 7-series chipset, and 22 nm processors could be part of its specifications a little later. The demo system at Computex was driven by a Core i5 "Ivy Bridge" processor, with a Turbo Boost speed of 2.70 GHz. A cheaper Celeron-powered version of the NUC is also on the cards.

Do want. Put two RJ45 sockets in there Intel! That would open up a whole new set of possibilities for the device. mSATA is good, but don't forget a SATA port for 2.5" or 1.8" HDD! Provide cases for mini footprint, plus expanded case (just a few cm bigger, higher) for a rogue setup.

But can it play Metro2033?

Jokes aside, this is really serious power in a box, increase storage to 120GB, add a graphics chip 5770 or more powerful and we will have a lanparty beast in our pockets

OK, so with that specs is 101% office PC. Good. But how come this is better than a small laptop or smartphone? Price maybe?

It's a x86 PC, how can you even start comparing that to a smartphone?

I wouldn't call it a fad...large pc's are done, they just don't know it yet.

These aren't a fad. They are perfect for HTPC's and average users that primarily browse the web. The small space signature is beneficial for numerous reasons.

Might be a good Jeep PC

If the NUC has 12v input, I'm not leaving it as a HTPC, and will take it on the trail for tunes and GPS in the Jeep. Any specs on the input voltage or temperature extremes this will handle?

How awesome would it be if they made one a bit bigger but with a HD7750 in it or something along those lines...

I wonder what the temps are like on this thing... and if it would be worth it to make a WCG farm with. Probably not...

release date?

Are there any rumors about release date? Or just any news?
It seems that there are no information at all during last month.

Any information or rumor will be appreciated. :-]
