Possible SSD's may have major breakthrough and 1 TB's costing $100 by 2014?

Just wondering. Production wise I would think they would be cheaper to make (robots in a factory not having to mess with moving parts) not having any mechanical parts...

they sure do have mechanical parts. they're just TINY.

1TB at $100 by 2014? sure, its actually quite possible.

its just that for that same $100 you'd probably get a 128GB thats 5x faster.

In the automotive racing world we have a term:

"Speed costs money. How fast you wanna go?"

Same applies to PCs

When SSDs are close to $0.50/Gb i'll buy

Edit: Moving parts?!?! What? In circuits!?!?! BLASPHEMY

In the USA, there are already 10 drives with 1-1.5 TB under $100:
Computer Hardware, Hard Drives, Internal Hard Dri...

SSDs aren't going to have a "major breakthrough" unless processors do and that's at least 4 years out yet.

I think 512mb for $100 may be possible that time.

1 TB is asking a bit much XD

( Predictions based on 128gb being £75 at the moment, in a years time that will be 256mb for the same or similar price, the year after that 512 for similar price )

with flash being a silicon product, the most optimistic prediction could be made using moore's law.

twice the size, at the same price, every 15 months:

06/2012: 128 GB
09/2013: 256 GB
12/2014: 512 GB

the only "moving parts" are electrons, which doesnt count as moving parts because the electrons are not part of the NAND flash

I think mussels assumed he talked about moving parts in the factory. I think. I'm not sure what he meant.

But no. NOnononono.
