Vista RC1 Released to public

The first release candidate of Microsoft's next operating system has now been released. Anyone who already has a Product Key from the Vista Beta 2 can use that and Microsoft will supply new Product Codes to new testers soon. Post back on how you get on, there are both 32bit and 64bit releases.

Download it from here. Their download manager is trash for me with IE7 but you can use your own (just mine can't handle over 2GB).

Wouldn't count on it sorting your wireless... I just got it installed (64bit) and it still doesn't work to start with and I can't use XP drivers. To get the drivers I'll need to connect to windows update, with the catch being I need my wireless network in order to connect to it. Looks like I'll be moving my PC to get that update.

Ubuntu on the other hand needs no extra drivers and the wireless connection works fine 'out of the box'.

Success! My wireless card (belkin pci) was installed automatically with vista drivers. At first it still didn't work so went back to xp(dual booting) ,logged into router and changed channel to 9.
All of a sudden, went back to vista and bingo! Works quite well except that avast anti-virus is blocked by the program compatability wizard( despite avast website saying it will work ).
I'm sure teething as a toddler was less painful than this

Hmm, my wireless is a PCI Belkin too and that doesn't work. Perhaps it will work when I reboot then!

As for cdawall's comment is that 256kilobytes or 256kilobits? If it's 256kilobytes it's downloading at 2megabit speeds so 3-4 hours is about right.

Thats odd. My card is a Belkin f5d7000, about 2 years old and by the time Vista booted the first time the drivers were installed. Maybe try it in a different slot to force os to re-install? Might work....

Vista reconises there is a card there, but doesn't have the drivers for it. It's the same card you have, is your Vista the 32 bit version?
