What's great about TPU.

Been coming here for years and I just realized this.. I have to thank Erocker for cleaning up the "whats wrong with these forums" topic, to make me think of this..

It's much easier to condemn than to praise but since we have a topic for one, why not one for the other?

When I first came here in 2007 I literally did not know what lol and wtf and all of that meant..
Completely lacking in any kind of computer skills at all, I decided "Hey let me build one of these monsters"..

Had no idea what I was doing, I keep googling for hours, using strings of nonsensical words, trying to make sense of what to buy and what went where and thermal what?! paste? Like for my teeth?

Eventually I stumbled apon TPU..
More out of blind luck and desperation than anything else..lol..

Within like one week I completely knew how to build a computer..

Within one month I knew how to overclock and aftermarket cool and test.

Within half a year at most, I was completely self sufficient in general computer repair and service, to the point that I actually charge people to fix computers for them..

In short, thank you all for a very different kind of forum..
I say, you can please everyone some of the time, some people all of the time..
Just can't please everyone, all of the time..
But you have a pretty dam good batting average.

While TPU may not be as good as it was 6 years ago,it still has a great community of people that help others.

6yrs ago!?!? Was the internet even around then? I thought it was instantly created alongside the epicness that is TPU

Maybe TPU can add language pacs for persons who speak languages other than english? Some people may prefer to communicate in their native tongue/s

Yea when more people are buying more tech, the buzz gets around a bit more it would seem.
This place still manages to be a main hub, in the traffic jam of modern tech though.

Idk where else I'd go for help and reviews I trust more..
Don't feel the need to look either..

TPU seems to be as good as it always has been personally.\
When I joined I was just moving on from a P4 Prescott 3.0E to a Athon X2 4800+ 939skt.
I was running AGP as well.

I came here after being banned from OCN for calling a guy and idiot and I should have come here even before that. TPU is much better in terms of community and such then OCN. I see a lot less moderators trolling people and saying stupid stuff compared to OCN.

Not always,

It depends on the context of how the insult was used and whether the mod who is reading it is in a good mood - If its Erocker however, you have just run shit out of luck....

the guy is a serious guy, but once in a blue moon he lets his hair down and takes on his hippy alter ego called 3rocker - then its all about peace n' love & the dixie chicks.

there are some mods here who go out of their way to make sure the forums are a nice place and all the members are happy. maybe even getting a little feedback from long time members.

their are some excellent and informative postings, good and relevant and frequent news, the reviews are excellent(depite no max OC), and the mods and some members often go that extra step to help with an issue.

It has been slightly quiter of late , imho theirs nowt for us all to argue about at the minute , thatll change come Q3-Q4, that and i am seeing better arguments these days too, less pety and FANBOIIII'd.

You pretty much got everything correct.. Except the Dixie Chicks part. If there's one thing I can't tolerate, it's Country/Western music. There are some exceptions I suppose.

I thought you named him EMailer?
Glad you said something, I don't want the little tyke getting upset because I got his name wrong on his birthday card.

On topic : What makes TPU great is the helpful members.
It amazes me how much effort some people will put in to help someone with a problem and stick with them until all is well.
Here's to you.

There is never a need to resort to calling people insulting names. You can get the same point across with a little forethought and eloquence.

Name calling (when caught) will almost gaurantee a warning or infraction. It's childish and we'd like to think our members are above that. It makes TPU look bad for those lurking or who are new members.

1. The percentage of idiots in this forum is the smallest of all tech forums.

2. The percentage of humor in this forum is the largest of all tech forums.

3. I built my first machine at 46 based on the knowledge I got from TPU

4. Since I quit drinking this is one of my drugs

These two really stand out for me.

I remember going to a New Zealand computer forum and it was like walking into an internet troll cave where the long term residents take pleasure in trolling the new members even on the smallest things such as grammatical errors while the mod sits back and watches it all go down or makes his own cheap shot.

The humor and being allowed to post humorous posts in threads has always been something I liked about TPU.
Although over the time I have been here I have seen some 'Iz seriouz catz' complain about it and stated they left here because of it.
There loss.
If they don't like the humorous posts in between the serious then they are making the right move.
