*WEIRD* CPU Lable (& its still working)
A few months after i got my i5-2500K computer, i wanted to install a better CPU fan.
(i live in the desert i watched the cpu getting to 60c on idle) - anyway, after i took the cpu out Iv noticed a lable on the inner side. now let me 1st say that this computer was bought from a very respected computers company and that they are the bigest in my country (so no fakes here). 2nd, the computer was working beautiful for 8 moths without any errors! so just take a look at the pics and please Answer these Questions: 1 - Did you ever saw somthing like that? 2 - why is the lable there and what for? 3 - is it actualy safe to put a lable on that part of the cpu? (i just want to find someone who actualy saw somthing like that, or better.... know what is it.) ![]()

I honestly don't know if you're trolling or not... but if you aren't... you just blew my mind. There's no reason for you to leave that sticker on so remove it. How it got there in the first place is beyond my imagination.

They phoned me yesterday and they insisted that they sell all of their computer this way. the person on the other side told me that all of their CPUs are deliverd like that to the customers. (im not new to their CPUs and i never saw anything like that) - & still they insisted that its been like that for years. - i live......somewhere, and even in my own country people dident saw anything like that. - they said its a TRAY ID and I Shouldet take it off. What do you think? |

As the others have said, it's a store label so just pull it off carefully. The label shouldn't hurt it, but it is useless and not meant to be there.
So, what country are you in and what's the name of this store?

Remove it because excessive heat in long run can make it melt and the glue can spread to the components and the socket and can cause a mess. I saw a friend's computer with this kind of label. That was even worse as the label was both below the CPU and above the IHS(his rig was overheating and that's why he called me). So what he told me is that the PC was given to the service center few months back. And those were the identification stickers.

I'd take it off and put it somewhere safe just incase the store needs it because they're to lazy to type in a few numbers lol

You can visit the Intel website to verify that it's a legit CPU if you want. The other markings on the CPU show whether it is retail or OEM, the manufacturer, etc. Oh and BTW, welcome to TPU.

Hmm, my opinion will differ here:
Leave it on. If you want store to honor warranty, it's required to leave it in place. Many PC stores do this. It's not going to cause any harm. Now, I do see a pad on the CPU that looks like it might be burnt and causing issues...that I would look more into..but that sticker, although not that common, poses no problem at all.

![]() Yep, check out that dark spot and check you socket on the motherboard. And, leave the sticker... you might need to return it to that secret store in that secret country... one day.

i'd be more worried about the blackened contact pad you have on the top left of your CPU....
check the socket, it seems like the old documented problem with foxconn sockets that have poor contact.... |

It would cause me concern knowing this sticker would be sandwiched between the CPU and the socket, none the less I don't thin it would cause any problems.
Could be worse. Back in the day some custom system building companies would hot glue the components to the motherboard. |

When the sticker is on the bottom of the CPU it's not a problem , it is a problem when the sticker is on the top of the IHS , and i saw this ones on a friend's i7 870 ,removing it wasn't easy .
