Confused with 6950 toxic to 6970.

I bought a Sapphire 6950 Toxic about 1 year ago, and just recently decided to unlock to a 6970. I tried to flip the bios switch on the card, and something odd happened. My shaders stayed the same, but the texture fillrate went up. (From 77 something to 83.6) The card performs noticebly better with the higher fillrate of course, but I don't understand why the shader values don't change.

This is weird, because I thought unlocking would increase the shaders, and they didnt go anywhere. I then flipped the switch into the #1 position and attempted a flash. Nothing changed when I did other than the vendor name changing from Sapphire to ATI. Any ideas?

Okay, well, am I out of luck then? Flashing was not a success nor was my bios switch flip (Beyond fill-rate upgrade)

flashing only really works on reference cards. youre lucky if you get a non ref card to flash successfully.

Take a look here.

The top of the card has a BIOS switch, which all Radeon HD 6950 and Radeon HD 6970 video cards have. What separates this video card from the rest, however, is that Sapphire has used this dual-BIOS nature of the video card to improve your gameplay experience through an increase in performance. The primary BIOS is a standard HD 6950 with 1408 shaders and with the voltage at 1.175V up from 1.1V, and overclocked. The secondary BIOS sets the video card into "Radeon HD 6970 mode" enabling extra shaders, up to 1536, that many enthusiasts BIOS mod their 6950's to try to get to.

I guess that's my problem- regardless of switch position I only get 1408.
