HSA Foundation Announces Six New Members

Today the Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) Foundation announced six new members. The HSA Foundation is pleased to welcome Apical, Arteris Inc., MulticoreWare Inc., Sonics, Symbio and Vivante Corporation to the membership roster. Each company adds expertise to the HSA ecosystem by assisting with research, development, production, manufacture, use, and the sale of HSA IP and heterogeneous computing software and solutions.

These new members have joined at different levels including: supporter, contributor and associate. Working closely with the founder members of AMD, ARM, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek Inc., Samsung Electronics and Texas Instruments (TI), the new members will contribute to the growing adoption of HSA in heterogeneous computing.

“As the word gets out about the HSA Foundation, we’re experiencing a groundswell of support from a wide range of companies that are interested in power-efficiency and heterogeneous computing,” said Greg Stoner, vice president and managing director of the HSA Foundation.

“HSA will enable the next era of computing from mobile and embedded to HPC and cloud computing, but it requires having a full value chain in place from silicon to IP to ISVs.”

id swear Intel and Nvidia dont sign up just out of spite, I cant make sense out of them holding out yet still moveing towards the same goal, even if they have their own standards and i expect they do/will instead, they will miss out on business and possibly sales if they dont get in on it.

They want to be monopolies (hell, intel already b/c of their money hand outs). Even if they know failure is imminent, it won't stop them from resisting (Intel spent many billions on Itanic and a few billion on Larrabee with nothing to show for it - bullheaded).

They don't want to compete (play fair). This is an affront to them and their greed. Their profits will have to suffer (or investors see a decline coming and throw a shit fit) before they give in.

Says non profit. Sounds like Amd is trying to be a team player while no one else is. If you started some club you wouldn't want to pay all of the expenses yourself. You would want to share the cost with the members of the club.
