Going to get a 7970 - Which brand?
I have been using Nvidia for a while and want to switch back to AMD now. the last ATI Radeon I had was a 48050X2. Has much changed since then, but more importnatly which is brand is the best for 1000$.

$1000? That much should get you 2x 7970's. Not sure where you live though, I'm doubting it's Antarctica. But matters what you are looking for, the reference cards are great and clock well for the price, and if your going to water cool, I'd just go reference. Downfall to them is they are loud as hell, so if thats a problem for you, then look for one with a better cooling solution, but that will bump the cost up a bit.

well nvidia 680 and amd 7970 are about the same, amd better in some games nvidia on others....
i would go which ever you find in your area with the best warranty

I have to throw out Sapphire's name. I got a 7970 from them: it was a beast OCer, it died, RMA was painless and fast, replacement has been running strong for a while and a decent OCer. I have reference cards under water which have been fine, but they did get loud when with their air coolers.
People have complained about Asus' quality and CS lately, but have heard good things from Gigabyte and MSI. With $1,000 to spend, you can get a fine setup indeed!

I am using Msi reference 7970 with Arctic 7970 cooler. at 1200 core, it never breaks 65 celsius.
