VIA Announces Latest VIA EPIA-M920 Mini-ITX Embedded Board

VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator of power efficient computing platforms, today announced the VIA EPIA-M920 Mini-ITX board, the first VIA Mini-ITX board to feature the latest VIA VX11H media system processor (MSP) enabling DirectX 11 and 3D stereoscopic display capabilities for immersive environments. Providing superior performance with the latest in connectivity technology in a low power envelope, the VIA EPIA-M920 Mini-ITX provides the ideal platform for a wide array of next-generation compact devices for applications in healthcare, gaming, digital signage, and other vertical market segments.

With the choice of a 1.2GHz VIA QuadCore-E processor for high-end performance or a 1.0GHz VIA Eden X2 dual core processor for fanless system design, the VIA EPIA-M920 is a highly flexible platform for compact, low power systems with today’s latest connectivity options including HDMI and USB 3.0. In combination with the VIA VX11H MSP, the VIA EPIA-M920 Mini-ITX provides the latest in graphic capabilities, for richer textures and more life-like images in even the most demanding multi-display environments.

About VIA EPIA-M920 Mini-ITX
Based on the industry standard Mini-ITX form factor created by VIA measuring 17cm x 17cm, the VIA EPIA-M920 Mini-ITX is available with either a 1.2GHz VIA QuadCore-E processor or a 1.0GHz VIA Eden X2 processor combined with the latest VIA VX11H MSP to offer superior computing performance for compact systems. Supporting up to 16GB of 1333MHz DDR3 memory, HD audio, HDMI, VGA and LVDS display connectivity, the VIA EPIA-M920 Mini-ITX also features a high performance hardware HD video decoder in the shape of the latest VIA Chromotion 5.0 video processor which boasts comprehensive hardware acceleration for the latest MPEG-2, MPEG-4, VC1, WMV9, and H.264 HD formats at screen resolutions of up to 1080p.

Rear panel I/O includes dual Gigabit LAN ports (optional), two USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI ports, one VGA port, one COM port, two USB 2.0 ports and audio jacks for line-out/in/Mic-in. On board pin headers provide support for two LVDS, one USB 3.0 port, an additional four USB 2.0 ports, two SATA ports, three RS232 ports with 5v/12v support, Digital I/O, LPC, one SD port (SDHC/SDXC) and one PCIe x4 slot. The VIA EPIA-M920 is also available with support for either ATX or DC-in power supplies.

System Specs

I wonder about what use would that SD card slot have, besides maybe Readyboost or some kind of backup feature...

System Specs

I think to be able to install an OS? You can't boot those things from an optical or USB disk perhaps.
