i have two gts 285s in sli was thinking of getting a 680 but

was thinking of getting a 680 but it would take me a very long time to save the money. would one 660 gtx be better then two 285s in sli or should i just keep saving for a 680 it would take me about five months?

I believe a 660ti would be better than SLI 285's not to mention the power savings and less heat plus the inclusion of newer technologies like DX11 etc you would get from the 660ti. Just look at some 660 reviews and compare the numbers with your own for instance: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/M...Edition/1.html

I do believe the GTX660 would be faster than the two GTX285s in SLI. However, I'd wait a few months, maybe until right after the holidays and try to get a GTX670. The price on the GTX670 has fallen pretty quickly recently, they can now be had for $340, I'd say start saving now, and pick up a GTX670 when they drop below $300.

Things will change in 5 months time so I'd suggest to keep saving. The GTX660 would be more or less on par with your SLI. The only justifiable jump in performance from your setup (apart from DX11 features) comes from the GTX670 which can be had now for as low as 340$ after rebates.

I got my Sapphire 7950 for $269.99 after rebates on Newegg free ship no tax, OC'ed to 1100/1500 and according to benches that's on par if not better in some games the GTX 680/7970 Ghz edition.

Sell the 285's, on Ebay or something, offset the cost a lot.

A GTX 570 runs roughly 10-15% better then dual GTX 280s in SLI. I'd suggest nothing shy of a card that can dish out GTX 580 performance at a minimum to make it worth upgrading. This way you get a bump in performance, drop in power use and less heat generated.
