k|ngp|n and EVGA Eclipse the Competition in a Storming LN2 World Record Session

Vince "k|ngp|n" Lucido is one of the world's most well known Overclockers today. So in October 2012, EVGA put his skills to the test and challenged him to crush the competition and sweep the board for 3DMark 11 scores. Armed with an assortment of EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified, EVGA X79 Classified Motherboard, EVGA SuperNOVA NEX1500 Classified power supplies, and enough Liquid Nitrogen to turn Taipei into a deep freeze; Vince was able to smash three brand new 3DMark 11 World Records*. In fact, EVGA along with k|ngp|n were the first to reach over 17,000 points on a single graphics card!

World Records:
  • 3DMark 11 Performance (Single Card) – P17,047
  • 3DMark 11 Performance (2-Way SLI) – P25,380
  • 3DMark 11 Extreme (4-Way SLI) – X17,384

Asked how he achieved it, Vince "k|ngp|n" Lucido remained lucid directly after filming, and answered: "Using the EVGA 680 Classified with my TEK-9 FAT GPU LN2 unit, I was able to get the GPU core clock screaming at close to 2100MHz! EVGA Precision and the new K-Boost feature helped me achieve this. …Next stop 2200MHz on EVGA 680."

Want to see this ground breaking feat for yourself? Then watch the 'EVGA 3D Eclipse' video:

To celebrate k|ngp|n's new World Records, EVGA is launching a contest featuring a prize package of epic proportions! Not to mention the giveaway includes a "one of a kind" Intel 3770K CPU, that is HAND PICKED by k|ngp|n himself!

The prize package includes:
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Classified Graphics Card – ARV $660
  • EVGA Z77 FTW Motherboard – ARV $330
  • EVGA SuperNOVA NEX1500 Classified Power Supply – ARV $449
  • Intel i7 3770K CPU (Hand Picked by k|ngp|n!) – ARV $330
  • G.Skill [TridentX] 8GB DDR3 2666MHz Memory Kit – ARV $150
  • Kingpincooling Venom 6.66 CPU Container – ARV $150
To enter the contest and be in with a chance of winning all these prizes, visit the EVGA Website at http://www.evga.com/articles/00712/ and create a five word slogan to describe the EVGA 3D Eclipse video and EVGA's dedication to the overclocking community. The contest will be open until November 14, 2012.

As an additional giveaway, EVGA has also created an exclusive 'Venom' Precision X Skin which is freely downloadable to everyone who enters the contest.

EVGA remains dedicated to the enthusiast. By offering power, performance, and differentiating features, EVGA is able to stay ahead of the competition in all areas. EVGA will continue to invest and innovate in programs and features that enthusiasts demand.

IMO any Kepler overclocking story is irrelevant... gives users the misleading impression that the GTX 6xx cards are good for overclocking when in reality they're completely neutered unless you're willing to physically voltmod the card.

Isn't that part of what made overclocking fun back in the day before software allowed for voltage control?

yes. now all the kiddies can do it so it is pointless. hey look, some random dude i know nothing about made some computer components i will never buy go really fast using some software and parts given to him by the promoting company. i would rather see this type of thing happen when the overclockers have to actually know a fair bit of electrical engineering. think how cool it would be if the top intel engineers decided they would each individually compete in their own fastest chip/overclocking challenge with chips they designed!

This is incorrect, 1st and 2nd place are held by the Radeon 7970 and were entries before this benchmark and this world record was not "smashed".

1st place - SniperOZ

2nd place - sofos1990

After the latest "Never Settle" drivers, the GTX680 has been dethroned.

Why you forgot to look on dates on your links, before spreading lies around?
Did you even watched video? There screenshots in it with all places at rankings at publication time...

Yes, 7970 with "optimized" drivers score higher, now even average joe with his aircooled 7970 score better than some previous LN2 runs. It happen before too, from both camps (NV with PhysX and now ATI with tesselation disabled), but overclocking is not just getting big number, it's about pushing hardware to limit.

And GTX680 is still hold all or near all top scores on official 3Dmark HOF, so throne is relative thing anyway...

Yeah, would be great to analyze how AMD achieved this boost. A few AMD optimized checkboxes do the job.

k|ngp|n did this. He proves that everyone who complain about voltage lock know shit about overclocking.

My mistake about the dates, I confused first for first place.

Nvidia still in third place though. Good try, Kepler. Disappointed in Nvidia after their godly gtx 580.

EVGA know to make graphic cards for OC.
But many people are disappointed in NVIDIA moves, locking OC...
EVGA no.1.

No longer in motherboards, not much better than others in graphics.

Why not X79 Classified, excellent motherboard for this purpose, push SB-E (3960x or 3930k)on 4.5-5.0GHz and drive. I thought immediately Caselabs Merlin SM8 is excellent for people who want to play with this.
You can remove motherboard tray and make benchmark table, than when you finish easy back hardware inside of case.
