Ordered some toys

I went bananas this evening and ordered some junk to toy with:
  • Core i7 3770K
  • Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UP5 TH
  • 2×8GB Mushkin Blackline Frostbyte DDR3L-1866 CL11-11-11-27
  • Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
  • LSI MegaRAID SAS 9240-4i (RAID controller)

Some thoughts:
- No new GPU; I'll hold on to my dual GTX470s and upgrade when something interesting pops up.
- I know the RAID controller is not a high perfomance part but it's there just so I get my 3× WD Red 2TB'ers RAID5'ed without chaining the array to the onboard controller.
- Will have to jury-rig the waterblock on this thing as the age old d-Tek Fuzion (original version) certainly doesn't play well with LGA1155...
- I feel a little silly for pulling this off as Haswell is coming in a little over ½ year...

It's been a way too long time since my last upgrade. YEARS...
Hit or miss?

Upgrading is always fun! I'm most interested in that 840 Pro, which is what I'm hoping for in the near future.

Indeed, I spoiled myself 3 years ago when I bought my to-be-obsolete Vertex 60GB and I'm so giddy to get my mitts on the new Sammy. Ĥp~ Surely, SSDs have come so far in all this time...

In case someone wonders why the motherboard is the dual Thunderbolt version; no particular reason. Got no use for TB - at the moment. Just got a really good deal for this model.

You're going to have a great time when you get your new stuff in, a terrific upgrade from what you're running now Since you've done all that, you might as well go with a new video card(s) too, or is that coming when the new cards release?
Regardless, to your new system

Pretty cool upgrade there. I am hoping Haswell will bring the party to me.

Enjoy.

Plenty enough power i find with the 3570k, especially when its pushed up to 4.6-4.8 too, i cant get it above that, but dont really need to.
