Case & CPU fans keep running after computer is shut down.

I'll be seeing my uncle on Thanksgiving & he told me that the case & CPU fans keep running after being powered down all the way up to the next time he turns it on. What might this be from, I want to be prepared since he lives quite a way from me.

Is he sure he is shutting it down or just putting it to sleep?

I've seen corrupted drivers, usually VGA, do the same as well.

Maybe when you get there you can give us the system spec's and a pic of the inside of the computer as well. The pic would just to see how dirty and dust filled it is. It could be so filthy inside it is shorting out.

Is he pressing the power button on the case, not just the screen? I have to ask as i have met many tech un-savvy people who wouldn't know the difference.

i'd put my money on haunted PC as well. seeing as how halloween was a week ago.
you ask him if these symptoms started appearing around halloween.

jokes apart. i seriously doubt he is turning his PC off. since the fans are connected to the 12V rail, im sure there would be some other symptoms.
@trickson, sleeping shuts off fans as well. IMO it only keeps the RAM alive to have the stuff loaded on it from getting erased. that too with the 5V rail.

no idea about what cadaveca said. infact never seen or heard of something like this. i guess im still young,
