Burning Plug

It has happened twice in ~3 months. Got one big extension (6 plug ins) with a

wifi modem
FO modem
32 inch LCD TV
cable receiver
telephone
PC monitor (LCD 19")
PC chasis
speakers (2.1)

connected to it.

This setup has been like this for 10 months now and this incident has happened twice only. 2nd time round was quite a bit later and sudden.

First time: Everytime my PC was on, some rubber burning smell would come. I thought its the PSU burning out, but found out after a week that it was the CPU chasis's plug burning.

Replaced the cord and the extension cable with was damaged (sorta) along with it due to the gradual burning.

Second time: About 3-4 months later, same setup. Extension started to burn and once again the CPU chasis was the contact point. Interestingly enough, the burning was happening while the PC was switched off and everything connected to it was off. The point of burn was the extension and the PC chasis plug (It was the Live pin of the chasis cord which was burnt out).

What gives? Why is this happening? It is the PSU? The extensions getting overloaded? If so, why is it the same plug that burns (the Chasis one) and this time the chasis was switched off too..

PS: Now its separate :P The extension is only connected to the speakers, PC LCD, PC chasis and the wifi modem

What's the extension cord rated for also what is the condition of the cord itself? A break or partial break that could add impedance to the circuit could cause the broken section to heat up. Could you take a picture of it?

Dont skimp on purchasing high grade 6 way extensions when it comes to drawing that much power. Check the rating, and check what the total wattage draw is from having all those devices plugged into a single extension. I would say it's the huge power consumption from the PC itself, having 6 plugs drawing power, 1 of which being a big drinker (also the one that always seems to seasonally cook). Having the PC direct into the wall and everything else in the 6 way might sort your issue.

luckily this doesnt happen with german power grids, or else i would have burned lots of extension cables in the process

Very high voltage is one of the possibilities but any other thing in the house effected ? I lost /damaged several ones including tv , refrigirator ,hand vacuum cleaner etc to high voltage once .

Well the thing is, the 2nd time round, all the devices were off or in standby mode.

Replace the cord and see what happens?
