S|A starts Charging for Nvidia News?

This might all be a hoax but the link does transfer to a https secure address with lots of jargon. I'm making no sweeping statements as S|A have in the past used strange devices to make other sites look silly, so I'd avoid posting this as news but here's a screenshot.

Are they really charging a subscription rate? Their website footer does say it's now owned by Stone Arch Networking (where CD is a consultant: http://www.linkedin.com/pub/charlie-...ian/31/689/2b0)

Charlie's site never took off in terms of visitors (= revenue).

So can't blame him for looking at other ways to make money.
If people are willing to pay for that kind of information, great for him.

$50? Oh, that's nothing. He wants to charge up to $1200 for a year's subscription!

What especially gets me, is how he can seem spot on many times and then make the most basic of errors.

Take this article that he published just three days later after justifying the paywall, Intel to update Ivy GPU drivers for QuadHD:

Quote:
QuadHD is kind of a misnomer, named by marketing people to make the technology seem better than it really is. HD pictures are named for their vertical line count and scan type, 1080p is 1080 vertical lines progressive scan, 720p is 720 lines again progressive. 1080i is interlaced, but 1080 lines vertically, just not every frame. By all rights, QuadHD should be 1080 vertical lines times 4, progressively scanned 4320p.

Wrong. Now count by pixels, 1080p is roughly 2Mp, so QuadHD is 4 times that or an 8MP display. QuadHD sounds better than 2xHD, right?. This works out to be roughly 2180p, and the user gets a whole lot less than they thought they were getting. It is a triumph of marketing over honesty, something you would hope the target markets would see through, but don’t hold your breath.
WTF Charlie? That's the most basic of technical gaffs and someone with your vast knowledge should understand such a simple concept. In short, 4K is no misnomer and not a marketing trick.

First I thought it was some kind of a joke. So Charlie's readers are the same people who buy Rolex. When they're bored after a hard day's golf game they'll just open SA to find out that Nvidia is no more and that AMD will be the first company to implement alien technology in their CPUs.

All there, in an article that's on the front page.

It's not the first time I've seen him come out with gaffs like this, either. But it's super-ironic coming right after asking for such extortionate amounts of money, lol. Yet, other times he's ahead of the curve.
