getting a gpu as gift for nephew
1 US dollar = 40.8650 Philippine pesos
here are the choices still can't decide (and yes it will be overclocked air thought) Asus HD 7950 DirectCU II TOP 3gb/384bit (OC Ed) PHP 15370.00 = 376.12$ http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=15987306 Power Color HD 7950 3gb/384bit ddr5 PHP 11999.00 (we can choose from the single fan or the dual fan also I don't think this is the oc edition one) = 293.63$ http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=14926169 Sapphire HD 7950 3GB OC GDDR5 PHP 15370.00 = 376.12$ http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=19916062 Power Color HD 7950 3gb/384bit ddr5 PCS+ (OC Ed) PHP 13340.00 = 326.44$ http://www.tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=19014020 7870 are a no go as they are priced at 15k-18k pesos = 367.06$-440.47$ don't know why. and the 660ti are more expensive than those above, specially the 670 so they are a no go. I've look at the reviews of those gpu above and all look great, but I'm thinking is the powercolor a good choice? or go with a trusted sapphire?

Seeing how all of those are overpriced, I would go with the Powercolor.
Powercolor is a good brand. I wouldn't say sapphire is more "trusted", just more popular due to time on AMD market and range of GPU solutions. Powercolor has been around for quite some time, and they make quality cards. With that beign said, the Sapphire has a factory OC on it, which they are charging you for. You can do that yourself with AMD software when the card is installed in your system. |

Personally I'd pick the ASUS over the others if money isn't an issue.

Do as Ranevas says: go with the cheaper Powercolor and OC it yourself.
Anyway your nephew is going to be thrilled.

However, more fans equals more cooling. The cooler the card says, the higher it will OC. The downfall of more fans is usually but not always noise. Noise can sometimes be bothersome unless it is regulated within the GPU BIOS or AMDs software. EDIT: I had forgot to mention this, but you should be aware that the card with multiple fans will consume more power if left at factory settings. Last edited by Ravenas; Dec 3, 2012 at 02:20 PM. |
