Problem with 8gb sd card

im trying to recover pictures for my friend. he has nearly 2000 pictures, mostly his baby when it was born. so they are very very important to him. here is the problem. when the card is inserted, all i get is five first images ( i figure they are first because of image name i00000, i00001 ect). next images from i00005-11 are unreadable jpgs, 12 is a 22mb tif, 13-26 unreadable jpgs, 27 tif 20mb, then from 27-44 they alternate between jpg and tif. the most interesting one though is i000045.tif, which is 7.5gb in size. all the jpgs and tif images, my computer cannot read. now here is the question... are they gone for good, or is there i program besides windows explorer i can use to check them?

strange update: i managed to open the card with windows explorer, and it displayed 1130 images. but it was still sort of looking for more. i tried to copy, but windows explorer froze..

You don't give much info. Is this card damaged or were the files deleted by someone?

There are various guides on SD photo recovery.

https://www.google.com/#hl=en&tbo=d&...w=1241&bih=606

It occurs to me though that it's not necessarily the photo's format, but it's condition that may determine whether or not ANY PC can read them. There are programs that can check for and even repair video files, there are also ones for photos too.

Still not giving much info. Is this SD card damaged, are you trying to recover deleted files, does your PC have a proper card reader with updated drivers, etc, etc?

If you think your PC SHOULD be able to read them and the card is not damaged and the files have not been deleted, the files could be corrupted somehow, in which case some of those links I provided for fixing corrupted image files might work, but thus far you're not making it clear at all what is causing this.

i started the copying. every 2-3 pictures i have to unplug and replug and hit try again. any program to unplug/ replug usb without actually physically doing it?

update: basically, i have the card in my camera, and open it through windows explorer and copy paste the pictures. i selected them all, started copying, when it says file cannot be copied, i unplug the usb, replug and hit try again. works for about 2-3 pictures at a time.. but there are 1137 pictures, so this might take all night...

If you can... plug your camera into the AC adapter or make sure your batteries are full/completely charged.

Try a different USB cable and/or port.

its not the camera, its the card. it can only work for about 5 seconds,
but at least when i put it in the camera, it doesnt lock up windows explorer, it just says location is unavailable, and lets me hit try again.

Are you using a card reader or plugging the camera into the PC? Or, both?

im using a camera. i dont have a card reader.

edit: well i do, laptop has one built in but when i put the card in there, and open it through explorer it crashes after a few seconds.
it seems like the card is fried, and only works for 5-10 seconds at a time..

I think it may have corrupted. Always scan Your card before using it.
