Upgrade advice
What is the most and best type of memory That is compatible for my HPE-257c PC running windows 7 home but willing to upgrade to win 7 ultimate if need be?

the mobo from that hp support max 16gb (4x4) ddr3 1333.
How much does it have now?

you will use the extra ram for what? imo 8 gb is enough

Having 8GB being enough is irrelevant. Ram is a dime a dozen, cheap as they come. You should double your Ram to 16GB (Max for your Mobo) because the cost is cheap and the benefits are great, not to mention longevity.

What memory configuration do you have right now? If it's 4x2GB, you'll unfortunately have to replace all of it in order to get appreciably more. Something like this would work well. If it's 2x4GB, you'll want to get another 2x4GB...something like this.
I'd still agree that more memory isn't all that useful--you'd be much better off with a solid-state disk (~128GB) or a faster video card (depending on what you use the computer for). Windows 7 Ultimate won't bring any benefits versus Home Premium for 99%+ of people.
