MSI R7970 Lightning weird problem

Hello, techpowerup. Something strange happens with my r7970. It happened only 2 times, but it's enough for me to start worrying about. When idle Windows 7 turns off aero then i start hearing fans. the card switching gpu and memory speed to their maximum values (1070 MHZ GPU and 1400 memory) and the temperature start to grow drastically. Is it hardware or software problem?

Have you tried bringing up task manager and see if anything weird is running when this happens?

Sounds like the Windows Experience Index thing is running. It's normally set to auto run once a week. It's very common and will test your system. You can disable it through the control panel - if this is what's doing it.

It seems you are right. I've captured a screenshot of gpu-z, last time when it happened. WEI last update dated 01/20/2013 01:07 and the screenshot was taken 01/20/2013 01:06
