Should I get corsair sp120's?

At the moment I have some yate loons highs, usually run at yate loon medium speeds, on my alphacool 240mm rad. It had 9.6fpi but is 80mm thick and does benefit from high static pressure according to all that I have read. My temps are pretty good right now also.

The whole reason I am even asking is because I can get the sp120's for $10.20 each with a special newegg coupon. That is a pretty good deal for what I know to be a great fan, and I would not even consider getting them at full price.

Should I get the corsair sp120's?

Yeah I stand by Corsair fans. I really like them. They will be quieter and produce more static pressure then then yate loons I would think.

They work great but are not that quiet. I replaced 6 YL medium fans with 3 SPs on my 360 rad and they SPs were louder. Granted, they performed just as well if not better If sound is no biggie, go for them.

Since I moved my computer out of my room sound has not been a real issue. I think I could undervolt the sp120's to be quieter than the yates but achieve the same or better performance. I really am not sure. $10.20 is a good deal. I hate it when newegg shows me good deals. I spend money. Money is not a big issue, I just don't like spending it.

My temps are pretty darn good as is. 15c above ambient as is at full speed, 20 above ambient at medium speed.

They should come with the little voltage step down regulator thing that should reduce speed and noise. I never used it; never knew it had it til I sold them

I have a fan controller to down volt. Even if I didn't, I have some 5v and 7v resistors I believe that I got from friends who bought some noctuas and didnt want the resistors.

Yer grab em. I have 2 sp120's (the high performance model) and i use the 5v step down regulator on them that are supplied and they spin at 1700rpm. At that speed i cant really hear them over my other fans (case fans and gpu fans) and they keep my rad nice and chilled

I use them for my main rigs rad and they are decent. I use a fan controller as well.

The corsairs have about 60cfm and 3.1sp. The yate loons at high move about 90cfm and have about 2.6sp.

The higher the static pressure the better it will force air through a dense rad even when clogged with dust as the 2 video clips above show (2 dogs, countryside = very dusty) temps dont seem to alter much either after a clean out so those sp120's force some serious air through those fins and at that price go for it.

The one that came with my H60 sounded awful, and in the way I've heard many people complain. They have a high pitch to them, not the smooth just air sound you'd get with a GT.

The fan that comes with the H60i is a bit different then the SP120 fans.

I am still on the fence. What is holding me back is that it is not needed, I would enjoy the better temps, and that I can't imagine the decrease in temps would be too substantial.

Go for it! They are nice fans, great build quality, and are sure not to disappoint. In any event, they would likely sell easily if the need arose (mine sold quickly).

I don't think the difference is worth the cost. I own both fans. Only way I would do it is if aesthetics mattered- Yates are homely looking.

How much did you get for them? If I could sell them for cost if I don't like them I would buy them.

Homely... Ha ha. Honestly I like the looks of the yates better because they are no frills just simple black and nothing to them. Aesthetics do not matter.

I sold the 3 for like $30, pretty sure. I was pretty happy to get rid of the blue yate loons so they were nice.

Was that $30 shipped or $30 + shipping.

If I had a good shot at getting $40.80(cost) + shipping I would just buy them to see how much I liked them.

Just checked and it was $30 shipped, and that was back in August, so I'm not too sure what you'd be able to resell for now. It may be better not to gamble on them.

The sale on Newegg is only ~$4 less than the everyday Amazon price anyway. Doesn't look like you can buy them and recover 100% of your cost by reselling them to someone else- you're going to have to pay to play.

Looks like it. The deal is that anyone can buy 2 for $23.99 but I got a special promo code to use for 15% off any fan. I guess if I don't like them I can get most of it back. Probably would just keep them and use my yates as regular case fans. $10.20 is a pretty good deal for a fan this quality.

I am thinking I am going to do it. No decision yet.

I have AF120 quiet editions and they are brilliant. If these are anything to go by the SPs will be great.

I got the SP120 high speed edition on my H100 cooler in push+pull. I have used the voltage reduction adapter cause they spin rediculously fast otherwise and make tons of noise. With the adapter they run at the same speed as the low-speed editions that my friend purchased. They are 3-pin but gladly the 3 speed option on the H100 still works. At low speed (dunno how many rpm) the fans pushing air through the rad are totally silent. Really 100% silent. Then I plug the fans pulling air at the top and well... those actually are clearly audible even at low speed, I guess due to their design. Nevertheless, they are great fans which do an amazing job at low speed (73c with 4ghz i7 930 while previous stock corsair fans did 81c) and -2c per extra fan speed which becomes loud and needs headphones to be bearable.

I would definately recommend to you the low-speed SP edition, or the high speed using the included voltage reduction cable, really amazing rad fans.

EDIT: as you might be aware, fans make different noises according to their design. The noise of the SP120 is kind of low frequency which is quite important to note cause high-pitched noise is much more annoying to me (eg GPU-style noise)

I have two SP 120 Performance Edition fans in "pull" for my H100, mounted outside the case (with a custom shroud/grill to hide them and reduce noise), and yes, they have a definite "growl" to them at high speeds. But even at minimum speed for my fan controller (40%) they cool almost as well as on full speed, within 1 degree c, and are virtually silent. You can tell they are high pressure fans - try to stop one with your finger and you can feel the torque (try not to lose a finger!). I also have two AF 140 Quiet Edition fans on my side panel, and they are indeed quiet, but move a ton of air.
