slow download speed with wireless
I live in an apartment in Auburn,AL. When I plug a power cord directly from a wall to my laptop. I got 60 mbps download which gives me around 7mB/s-9mB/s when download a file in mediafire .com. Now I plug the cord to my router netgear wdnr2000, so I can use wireless. But I got only 3mB/S-5mB/s download the same file from the same site with wireless. I need to use the cord from my router to my laptop if I want more speed. Is it my router problem?

use QoS if your router has it.

Probably you having a b/g router with max 54Mbps bandwith is causing this. On the network cable you get 10/100Mbits, thats more than the 60 you could maimally have. And the 54 on the wifi is shared between devices and combines both the upload and download data streams.

When unplugged your laptop will go into power save mode to obviously increase battery life. However, this makes it painfully slow.
Try doing this: Go to Device Manager, Select Network Adapters/Wireless card, Advanced tab and turn Power Save Mode Off. |

now you did not say earlier that the speed decreases even with a wired connection to the router, this leads me to believe that the fundamental flaw is with the router, try upgrading to the l8est firmware...
