Having a nightmare

I opened up my Silverstone strider SST1000P and blew off the dust on the fan. Put the cover back on and it seems pretty dead.

It's the rev 1.1 edition with the blue modular ports for pci-e. Usually they seem sturdy enough. It may have been subjected to a bit of rough love. namely cleaning the stupid sticker off the cover. Just wanted to post to gather opinions on what might have failed.

Silly question...

Any cables loose inside? Earth attached to casing?

Inside pics from Kit Guru for reference.

EDIT: Fan header re-attached?

What did you blow the dust of with and did you let the air spin up the fan. I've read about fans burning themselves out by spinning them under compressed air.

Fan is attached. Not sure about an earthing. I took of a case before and never worried about that.

I blew the dust off with the force of my lungs. I'm not worried about the fan. More about power to my mainboard and components.

Try unplugging the PSU from everything and doing the hot jump test. This should show if the unit is powering on atleast.

I guess if it is a bit of an expense and you don't have the money it is an issue. I have an immediate budget for computer repair, car repair, prostitutes, etc...

Try moving the fan manually while hitting the start button- my 600w Strider did something similar and that got it working again. It continued to run fine until I shutdown or restarted the rig and then I would have to do the same thing again.... I was able to go for a few months until I got a replacement.

Not sure why this worked but it did (maybe an issue in the fans PWM controller???)

What did you replace with, not another Strider? I am looking at the Corsair AX760 for around 140, it is platinum rated by the guys. I want one that is modular and that I can use my modded cables with, without having to change stuff around.

Try hooking a molex fan to the PSU then jump it again to see if it powers the fan.

Corsair HX850 and no regrets- fantastic unit! The AX760 should be a decent unit as well

But that might actually be a turn on for some. Especially if your neighbour were a hot petite blonde.

I apologize for being OT, but i couldn't resist.

On topic now - If you have a volt meter, you can confirm quite easily by testing the pins after doing a hot jump test. Hopefully it is just the fan, but you may have inadvertently done something else to it.

The fan is spinning with the PSU jumped but no dice, with fans, graphics, pump all connected. Nor does the mainboard lights flash when I connect it in the usual manor. i.e. if it was not jumped and they always have done.

Thinking getting the fan spinning to jump it into life does not seem to be paying dividends.

So yours is fantastic and the AX760 only decent. I like it because the 5v and 3.3v are independent and not run from the 12v, like the Strider seems to. I have, being honest, found my smaller voltage rails problematic with the Strider, so the Corsair AX760 is practically sold.

It's pre-order where I would buy it from. The funny thing is I started to look at this PSU and then my own breaks. Got me a bit spooked.

Just to check. The PSU fan spins when the 24 pin connector is jumped?

Are you then removing the jumper wire and replugging in to the mainboard to test? You should NOT keep the 24 pin connector jumped and try PC peripherals linked to the motherboard (cards, drives etc). Can damage the components.

I wouldn't worry nothing is happening. My multimeter is dead. I don't know why. Do I have to unscrew it and replace the battery?
