8120+6850CF assassin creed 3= min 12fps

I am using a fx8120 with 6850 1gb CF, 16gb ram for assassin creed3

sometimes I get a very low 12fps for 30-60secs. especially in some location(snow, not in cities), average 30 fps, max 60fps, 1080p, other setting middle. this also happens for another uplay game, ghost recon: future solider.
while other games, such as crysis2, cod8,9. maxpain3. batman 1,2. all get a average 45-60fps, max setting. low fps at 30.

8120, not OCed, turbo on, volt 1.275, can not use auto, since mis 990 will boost it to 1.46 and result in very hot vrm 70c, not very hot cpu but (8 pharse)vrms. cpu is water cooled, but cannot find any better way to cool vrm than fans.

both 6850 are not OCed. CF is on and CF logo is showing while gaming.

any suggestions

thanks in advance

Try overclocking you ram to atleast 1866mhz,the IGP on your cpu depends on your system memory and you could be getting these FPS drops because it dosent keep up.

Where is the iGPU?

Try setting your power settings to "Performance", maybe your CPU isn't fully coming out of an idle state. When the framerate dips, you should watch GPU and CPU usage. It could tell us more about what's happening.

but can not set cpu volt to auto, since vrm too hot, 1.46 if auto. vrm at 70c and can be more.

i am not sure what is the cpu usage and gpu usage when at low fps, but after i return to windows, cpu seems usage 60% at 6 or 7 cores, and gpu is not fully used, since crysis 2 drives my gpu to 67c where as this game, both gpu are at 57c and 60c.

Can you not play it on your i7 960 rig? I'm guessing you'll get alot more fluent gameplay.

even the AMD should be fine with it. There is something wrong with it, What driver version are you running?

True I guess, was just offering it as a suggestion for troubleshooting. I would go for a clean install of the 8120 with just one 6850. AMD chips don't scale well with multi-card setups.

Clean install and push that one card to the max, check it out in a few games, you'd probably be surprised how little crossfire has actually enhanced your gaming experience. It's possibly even hindered it, sometimes min fps crash out.

EDIT - Personally I would swap your GTX 560 to your AMD setup and your crossfired cards onto the X58. I'm guessing you would see an improvement in both.

I will try clean install later, many games on this system at the moment. Can not play on i7 960 since it is setup in my office, feel not very comfortable playing games there. more over, that i7 sometimes running some of my works and can not do any thing for days. I have another 2gen i3+460 at home, I will see if that works better than 8120+6850CF

still have old 12.8 + cap 12.1 will update to 13.1 today. but I can not delete old caps... BSOD

Very strange is only Uplay games suffer from this 8120+6850CF, all other games does much better than my i7 + 560 and i3 +460

I don't really think the cards being in crossfire is the issue as I am also running 6850's in cf with a 1090t and I have butter like frame rates. I am also running the 12.6 drivers. I tried the 13.1's and it didn't work out well at all for me. Probably was an issue on my end and you may fair better with them.

I agree, I tested the CF since last year when i set it up, CF is much better than single card or 560 or 460 in any games except Uplay games. I just wonder is there a bug in Uplay games for 8120 and 6850.

You know what, I'd love benchmarks from users like yourself to show real life performance in games using crossfire and amd processors. All I hear is alot of negativity and poor scaling stories. Sounds like you have both had relatively positive performance in games.

I suggest you oc to around 4-4.3GHz then test the game again and see if the FPS improves as i use a FX 4100 @4.6GHz and a GTX 560 Oc and i get 50-60 FPS on High @1920x1080

heres a vid i made

well Assassins Creed III relies on better single core performance than multi which is FX's strong point. FX has bad single core performance which Vishera/Piledriver increased on. I wish they would have tested IVY & Vishera

Looks to me like a god awful port. Seeing an old system with both older CPU and GPU beat out a modern set of hardware is a little concerning. Reminds me of the new Most Wanted game, the FPS in that tanked like crazy regardless of what system you had.

thanks, my msi board can not OC very well, will never buy MSI again, CPU is cool, but MSI VRM is very hot, at the moment it goes to 62c with a fan on it. if OC, I may get this expensive board burned. I will try to set the turbo a bit higher and see the results. I still think why only Uplay games suffers from AMD. not any other games,
and my average fps is 30, low fps 12, high fps 60. just such low fps is very annoying. it happens in certain location, and may happen once or never happen during play.
