What software to copy HDD ?

I got everything already installed on a 250gigs hdd and wanna transfer the whole setup to a 320gig more recent hdd.

I want it really simple.

Do I just copy and paste the C: to send it to the other drive or i use a software you can suggest me?

I will just open the case plug in the free hdd and copy files there. Then after screw it there and close the case.

Thank you.

That does not work. Most drives have clone software that you can download

or use
http://clonezilla.org/

If you're just going for the OS, windows can handle that

It's for "HDD to SSD" but the same method works anywhere

Macrium Reflect Free Edition is a better alternative to Acronis and free for everyone. There is also Clonezilla but that's going to be a bit more confusing to a newb.

How about DriveImage XML? I've read great reviews about it, but never really gave it a shot. It's been a long time since I upgraded my HDD. It's free and very compact (1.78MB) You might be able to find it on UBCD.
