Getting a new laptop

Well lads,

I bought a new laptop off ebay as I will be needing it for some college work soon.

It's a HP Pavilion g6-2238dx and bought for 414 euro.

Windows 8 64-bit
AMD A8-4500m 1.9/2.8Ghz + Radeon HD 7640g
4GB DDR3 RAM

Anyway! Just wondering if I can overclock this laptop?
Also, I play on buying guild wars 2 soon and was wondering would this laptop be able to play it at all? even on low settings?
I will mostly play older games such as Rome total war and Dominons 3 but it would be very handy if it could run some modern games on it too?? :P

Yes you can overclock it, AFAIK the only recent AMD mobile chips that you couldn't OC was Brazos, looking at similar specced one for myself

Should run any modern game, heck my Brazos laptop (1.6ghz dual core HD 6320 (80 stream processors) will run stuff like L4D 2, COD MW etc on low settings I would expect the A8 4500m to be able to run most mmodern titles at medium res considering that they will be likely used most on mid range 720p laptops.

Though the CPU would be a determining factor in more CPU intensive games (as you mentioned Shogun 2) so don't expect steller performance.

That's good to hear! I wouldn't play any FPS games on a lappy though, I would keep the bigger games for the desktop ^^
I wouldn't bother with shogun! The cpu certainly would struggle big time! :L

I'm sure football manager 2013 will run perfectly though ^^ Hopefully :L

It runs 2.8ghz turbo, I would imagine a 3.0ghz+ OC is very easy

You should be ok with older games as the Trinity APU is a very capable in games. I have a A10 in my lappy and it runs at a lower clock speed but can play games fine. Admittedly i have a 7660G and a 7470m in mine. I would try it out with a few games as it is before i worry about trying to OC.

Good ^^

Yeah I'll try what ever games first without overclocking. if they run fine then I won't bother with overclocking!
The A8 isn't far off the A10 in performance so that's also good news!
I play Rome total war with the Roma Surrectum 2 quite often on my computer so I'm hopeing that this laptop will be able for it?? on high settings?
