In search of a Z77 mobo under $250

As the title states. The V-pro I have likes to take care of hdd's and now took a ssd. Tired of playing around with drivers, os's and multi meters to see the root cause. So, mobo is going.

Looking for anything that will do it's job and not be a person on "their time of the month".. No time to mess around since I now do 80+h a week...

Biostar TZ77XE4. Cheap as chips, OC CPU nice, ram not so much, but more than enough for 99% of users.

I've had problems with both "v" boards I've had so far. Z68 and 77... ROG has never held me back, but now I don't have time to mess around anymore...

I'm guessing with 2400 memory a biostar might not be great for you. At first I was going to say a sabertooth, can be had for $230 now, but the platform for that may be really similar to those V boards. Then again they like to change up the chipsets for each price tier so it may be different enough. There really aren't any boards out there that have been trouble free for everyone haha

I don't mind a bit of issue here or there.. but when drivers crap and I lose 6tb of data and a ssd... all needing rma... I want something with a little better track record...

I would go with either of the biostars or the ASRock that I had mentioned.

Good IMO. Overclocks better than ASRock Z77 Extreme4, which has heat issues I think.

And with the insanely well rated onboard audio I'd be seriously tempted to compare it to your soundcard. Doubtful you'd like it more than your card but worth a shot. And I guess thunderbolt is a plus.

What's up with all the Biostar love? I've never had anything but trouble with their boards. Or rather, I've seen far too many systems based on them brought in for service over the years... In my personal experience as a service tech, the only brand that has worse track record than them is ECS.

Why not a nice ASRock Extreme4/6 or Gigabyte UD3/4/5? MSI even?

Biostar make good mobos especially their T-series is/was very nice ,and while searching AM3+ mobo i saw they used very high quality VRMs on their mobos but not available in my country atm

I did like the TZ77XE4 alot when it first came out. wish you gave it a review, instead of a preview, but we know that was due to the timing of the beast..

Blah, torn between the Rog Max V and that biostar.. I have the Tz77Mxe and love it.. just waiting for the rma on that.. but, don't care so much on it's bios

I second this. Since I've had mine up and running, it's been great. No heat issues, lots of connectivity options, plenty of USB 3.0 hookups, PCIe 3.0, lots of BIOS options and so on.

The ONLY thing I'd do differently is not installing the bloatware that comes with it.

As for Asus, I've lost faith in their products. All of the Asus boards I've had were supposedly awesome, yet didn't perform all that well. Voltage regulation has been sub par. I've gotten better overclocks on lower priced or supposedly inferior boards than on the overpriced Asus products.

Note that has been on several different gen products starting all the way back with socket 939.

Yea I have the Z68X-UD3H B3 PCI 3.0 board and it has been a real pleasure to own. It clocks very well and have PCIex 3.0 (with ivy installed).
