October's 'Patch Tuesday' to address eleven Windows issues
There will be a total of six patches that deal with Windows issues, four dealing with Microsoft Office, and one to patch .NET framework. There will be at least one critical patch each for Windows and Office, though the .NET framework patch is only rated a "moderate" security issue. Microsoft will also update it's Malicious Software Removal Tool. The patches are designed to address flaws that hackers have been exploiting, such as a recently discovered flaw in WebViewFolderIcon ActiveX control. You can read the full security bulletin here.

Patch Tuesday's a good thing, looking forward to it.
![]() * I wonder when the last one will be? Now, before any "Microsoft haters" or otherwise has anything to say like: "It will never happen", etc., so why wonder? I have to disagree! (@ the OS level, not Office & other products from MS) I honestly think the day will come in the next 5 years that we won't have to be patching stuff up every month from Microsoft (@ least @ the OS level, for 32-bit software)). APK P.S.=> Now taking bets... apk |

it wouldnt surprise me if microsoft soon send a patch out with the deliberate action of handicapping systems running XP tp try and help people towards upgrading to Vista (conspiracy theory indeed but possible)

. . . right, I'm sure that will happen, just as I am sure the winning powerball ticket is going to gently float down from heaven into my loving arms.

(Stopping support of XP/Windows Server 2003 beforehand would do this as well). ![]() * If MS pulls that? They'll LOSE, no doubt about it, because one of their strengths has been their OS support! It's truly "bad enough", imo @ least, that they are 'crippling' OpenGL to try favor DirectX... bad move that one imo! APK P.S.=> In any event? I do think w/ in the next 3-5 years that we will see totally SOLID OS' after patchwork that is occurring, today! (& then eventually absolutely solid OS releases after that (oh, SOME tiny errs, but not gaping/huge security holes in them))... Mark my words! There can be only SO MANY HOLES, & this hacker/cracker community is doing us all a HUGE favor, acting as Ms' "R&D" in this area imo... over the "long haul", that is... apk Last edited by Alec§taar; Oct 8, 2006 at 02:22 PM. |

. Trying Quake 4 in Windows Vista was absolutely insulting. Everything looked more contrasted, you could see the actual textures flying around, the entire game looked like it was 640x480...It was like taking a gigantic step backwards. ID Software is not going to be happy about that.

My point, exactly.... again, & Heck - I DON'T LIKE IT! APK P.S.=> Greed: If anything does MS in? It will be this "virus of the spirit" as I call it @ least (straight outta "Pandora's box" & has been w/ us ever since)... oaks aren't usually felled by axes, but rather rot from w/in (or is the Roman Empire no example))? "King Billy" imo @ least?? Wasn't ALL about money (though others tend to think so - imo he is WAY past that & wants history on his side now, & this IS typical of the MEGA rich imo)... "King Billy" (as I call him RESPECTFULLY, mind you) is truly a nerd/geek @ heart imo & he knew/understood a CRUCIAL-KEY THING: You have to have something folks NEED, not just want (but you have to give them BOTH)... However, Mr. Balmer? Well, another story completely imo... if anyone does MS in?? It WILL be he... I could be WAY off here, but that kind of man NEEDS all the money he can get - he isn't going to get women (for instance) on his looks/charm, this is certain... but money? Goes a LONG ways in that capacity (w/ the WRONG KINDS OF WOMEN, imo)... apk Last edited by Alec§taar; Oct 8, 2006 at 08:26 PM. |

Tons of people have been making fun of microsoft simply because its Microsoft. The reality of it all is that some of the greatest programming minds work there and its not that microsoft is bad at what they do, its just the scope of their projects is massive. Then people go on to complain about security holes and while thats true, you also have to remember its hard to secure a product as massive as XP or Vista and include all the features while maintaining perfect security. Not to mention that because Microsoft has been sooo successful they also have to have backwards compatibility with everything, and because of how many windows systems there are in the world malicious programmers are much better off trying to hack through a windows firewall then a mac OS firewall.
What i'm trying to get at is Microsoft isn't that bad :P |
