BF2142 will include spyware to monitor web usage to deliver in-game ads!

http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/centipe...are-207955.php

Pay $50 for the game just to have it install spyware so it can deliver ads to you in-game? Bullshit!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuck EA!

Microsoft shitloads there os with analitical programs. Simple company realtek ads monitoring software to there driver package. bf2142 is not the first in the world to do this.

It runs outside of BF2, records your internet browsing and other such things to deliver targeted ads. That is spyware, not just program usage statistics.

Why do we care?

1. It is an invasion of privacy. Some of us still believe in the Constitution and the ideals the United States was founded on. Even if the latest propaganda is telling us privacy is a bad thing. I am sure someone is thinking the witty response "Who cares as long as I don't do anything wrong". Well, someday something you do may become "wrong" in the eyes of somebody and they will try and do away with it. It has happened numerous times in the past and it WILL happen again. Do believe the loss of privacies won't effect you or possibly your grand children is naive at best.

2. If I have just spent $50 on a game, which is a ton of money to me (I Have not bought a game in long time) then I want it to be an immersive experience. I do not want to be fighting in futuristic fantasy world or whatever universe a game is in, and have an add for the latest toothbrush appear no matter how discrete it is.

3. I hate to use a cliche but here it goes. The old boiling a frog theory. In all honesty this isn't extremely bad, but once we get use to this they (gaming companies or corporations in general) can kick it up another notch with about as much resistance as they are getting now.

I'm going to head off the "Then just don't by the game" response and tell you that I have no intention of even playing the demo. I will not support this growing trend. It may turn out to be nothing but it may get worse.

Okay there is my monthly rant

Your reading comprehension sucks-

"When you use the software connected to the internet, the Advertising Technology may record your Internet Protocol address and other anonymous information (Advertising Data). The Advertising Data is temporarily used by IGA to enable the presentation and measurement of in-game advertisements and other in-game objects which are temporarily uploaded to your personal computer or game console during online game play."

It watches what you do outside of BF2, browsing the web and probably cookie monitoring. Any other piece of software that does that is considered a particularily nasty piece of spyware.

1000 of other software manufactures puts analitical webtracking in there software. also this is hardly a large invasion of privacy. people already give out most of personal information on the web for public use anyways. the data that comes out from webtracking is like "1 hit on coca cola.." not something like "Polaris of Mountain Home, Arkansas (ip123.242.12.1) has viewed a coca cola ad" then show this information to the public.

Lol using the software means installing BF2142. Of course, you dont have to use it (dont have to install 2142).

You should notice that the EULA indicates it collects the IP and "anonymous" information in one sentence, naming it the "advertising data", while in the next sentence in indicates said "advertising" data is then used in-game to produce ads. This can only mean it collects information from your web usage to produce targeted in-game ads.

It records your web traffic to TARGET THE ADS.

Bad ea. Bad.

Then again, I never planned on buying any of the crappy BF series anyways.

Well, it's bullshit, but it's not technicly spyware because they are telling you that it's being installed. Thats how they are covering their asses, so if it happens to find anything illegal(like say a pirated version), it can transmit the data with your permission. There is no way in HELL I am going to let my privacy go just for a fuc*ing game. No game is worth that.

I know, but I do not like that either. For example I have firefox block cookies that I do not specifically allow, but I know some information still gets out. I am not paranoid or anything, I do it as a matter of principal. I think I should have some say in what information is collected and who sees it.
