Bottleneck advice please

I may possibly have the chance to swap my Sempron 3000+ CPU and skt 754 ASUS mobo for a Athlon 64 3000+ CPU and skt 939 ASUS mobo (at no extra charge) and swap my X600 Pro for a 7900 GT OC (and roughly £100 - £130) But what I want to know is, "is it worth it?"

How badly will the Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice) bottleneck the 7900 GT OC

Well a trade like that is certainly worth it for £100 I think. The 3000+ could be overclocked to 3500+ speeds easily and although it would be a bottleneck it would certainly be much better for gaming. If only you had your old rig still...

Go for it if you have £100 to spare and do play a fair amount of modern games.

What happened to your old rig?

Also, watch out for your PSU...It might just be able to barely handle the new GPU and CPU.
