Computers said to be shipping with Vista are really only getting an upgrade disk later

With the release of Windows Vista to manufacturers, some retailers and OEMs have been taking advantage of consumers. Said retailers are claiming that the new PCs they are shipping out come with Vista. Robert Epstein, head of Microsoft Windows Vista marketing in the UK, wants to clarify this. Consumers "won't get it" until January 30. What the retailers are really offering is a free upgrade disk for whichever copy of Windows Vista the customer ordered. It will ship out when Vista is released. Epstein also wants anyone who sees retailers not making this clear reported to him. You can report unclear advertisements to newswireless, and they will report directly to Microsoft.

Firstly, anyone who buys a prebuilt system from a retailer i feel sorry for, the same system can be build cheaper if you build it yourself, be it a big difference or small in price, secondly shouldnt retailers be telling the consumers that they are only getting an upgrade cd?

i think they are doing it the right way because when the customer see the performance impact that Vista causes on their systems they can just downgrade rather than having to lump it, just think of all the driver problems and conflicts it will cause when an inexperienced user tries to upgrade.
