NEC Ships 25.5-inch Professional LCD Panel

NEC is now shipping its latest professional LCD 2690WUXi display. The 25.5-inch panel is targeted to professionals and hardcore gamers with its 7ms gtg response time. Other specs include an 800:1 contrast ratio, 400 cd/m², resolution of 1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz, and DVI-I+DVI-D+VGA. Just like top Eizo models, Nec 2690WUXi has 12-bit gamma lookup table (LUT), which covers 92% of Adobe RGB space. This makes it quite attractive for color sensitive applications, such as photography, CAD, medicine and scientific research. Estimated price of the 2690WUXi is expected to be more than $2,000 when it hits the market.

but i dont understand the price. i mean dont most people buy like a 32 inch HD LCD and hook up their system to it for movies and it looks great? and thats like 1000 bucks. please explain?

Correction Track,
We now have 17", 19", 19" widescreen, 20", 20.1", 21", 22", 24", 25.5" (which sounds like a 24" widescreen to me), 30", 30+"

It really depends on how big you like your screen to tell you the truth.
Many people tend not to like the 19" and 24" too much.
The reason for it is bc they have bigger pixels than the other screens.
This is bc the 19" has the same resolution as the 17", meanwhile the 24" has the same resolution as the 20" screens.
Since the screen is bigger it streches the pixels out, making them bigger.
I gotta say that a 20.1" is big enough for me, but I always wanted to get 3 screens together.
So after X mas I will be able to have a 20.1 with 2 17" screens combined together (Makes it much cheaper than one 24" screen).]

For a $2000 dollar screen, this comes up pretty short.
There are 30" screens (from Dell and Apple) that only go for $1200-1500.
This is a rip off.
I would at least expected to see a 2000:1 contrast ratio, but the response time is a lil quicker than screens close to its size.

It's not for watching movies.

By in large all LCD"s are pretty horrid for 3d animation work, and CAD work. Only the upper end pro grade models come even close to CRT's for functionality in those areas.

LCD TV's are even farther behind the LCD monitors in those areas and nobody would use them at all.

This isn't made for office/movies, this is for CAD and imaging pro's that might want to trade in their 22inch CRT. It's still not as good for those areas, but it's damn close and offers a bit more screen area.
