PSP gets version 3 firmware

The version 3 firmware update for the PlayStation Portable has been posted to Sony's Japanese site, with a US and European update expected to follow swiftly.

The new firmware adds a number of things to the recently-neglected gaming device. The biggest news is the support for the PlayStation Network, Sony's online service. This allows gamers to pay for and download PSOne games - including legends such as the original Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VII.

However, in a spectacular disappointment, downloading of these retro titles is only available to those who have a PS3, due to the way the PSNetwork works. Stand-alone download functionality is rumoured, but not confirmed.

Remote Play allows you to stream video from the PS3 to the PSP. There is support for the forthcoming camera and also a tweak to finally allow you to stop UMD games from starting as soon as you put them in the drive.

Stupid Sony.
Nothing is going to make me want to give up my 1.5. Soon enough the emulator will be hacked and i will be enjoying it on my 1.5 PSP, whoot!

And i believe that it has been confirmed that the PSP will be able to download PS1 games by itself.

ya I don't even bother with Homebrew shit, I buy all my PSP games. and running the 3.01 firmware now so far i like it. Finally being able to turn off the autorun on UMD's was worth it man that was annoying.
