Videos are in inverted colours.

Hi. I have re installed my XviD codecs, tried DivX codecs as well. But still my videos all remain in inverted, wierd colours. And I can't seem to fix it. This goes both for internet videos and downloaded ones. Would somebody please offer some adivce as thise is very very annoying and I know of no way to fix it so I was hoping someone here would know. VERY desperate to fix this, thanks, Casheti.

Go to http://www.cccp-project.net/

Download their insurgent. It will tell you all the codecs you have on your machine. Use it to find the ones you don't need, and uninstall them. Refer to their Wiki for help in determining what needs to stay or go. Then download and install the Combined Community Codec Pack from the site. It's the most integrated and properly tuned codec mega pack available right now. Use it in conjunction with Real Alternative Lite and Quicktime Alternative.

The K-Lite Mega Codec Pack is another alternative, it has more codecs, but it isn't set up properly out of the box. It will take some time to tune properly, as it has some filter conflict issues. But if you can take the time to set it up properly, it is very powerful.

I like VLC a lot myself, I use it religiously on my Mac, but if you watch any video with subtitles in the .ssa or .ass formats, it's not displayed properly. Both formats support type setting and custom fonts. VLC just displays them as generic subtitles. For instance, if you have a movie that has a sign on the screen in a foreign language, .ssa and .ass subs will let you place the subs right on the sign in a font that matches the original, but VLC will display them at the bottom of the screen in a generic font.

If you don't watch anything subtitled, it probably doesn't matter, tho. But it still wouldn't hurt for him to get his machine straightened out, anyway.

Used to happen to me in lots of online Videos when I was using WMP 9 and hadn't upgraded to 10 yet, so you could try getting the latest Windows Media Player if you haven't already.

TBH I don't have a clue what causes the whole inverted colours thing, probably an outdated codec but it's very unusual behavior, you'd expect the video to just not play if there were problems, but that's M$ for you.

not really, its pretty common if you download alot of videos, as i tell EVERYBODY use vlc, once u get use to its controls(the biggest thing that bothers windows ppl about vlc is the control layout) you cant beet it for a genral video player, it will even play cd/dvd image formats like iso, nrg, bwt, mds and bin, it will playback dvd's, i mean it truely is an all in 1 player!!!!!

I LOVE my Media Player Classic (integrated in K-Lite).

I tried VLC but really want to have the sound volume level be controlled by mouse wheel.
Plus the ratio settings controlled by NUM pad.
Became my 2nd skin somehow.

WMP is a too-often-and-always-too-late-updated security-safe software, I never used it to play media files, but it often proved useful for testing the strenght of my firewall settings : )

I actually prefer the Zoom Player that comes with the CCCP. It's a power user's wet dream. lol Light weight and insanely configurable. I guess it is better suited to those that have a strong understanding of codecs and filters, tho.

I haven't got a clue about codecs, which are good or bad, which do what. All I know is, as long as I can play videos I'm happy.
