Pentium 4 670 Engineering Sample

Saw this a few days ago.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Pentium-4-3-8GHz...QQcmdZViewItem

First of all, does anyone think this is real? Secondly, would it be better or worse than a retail model?

engineering samples are usually unlocked... though its technically illegal to sale them per the contract u sign to get them in the first place.

I personally have two confidential processors, one pentium d 640 and one 965 Extreme Edition. They were review samples and not for sale at any chance. You can read the ebay rules that it's not allowed to sell ES and also Intel strongly forbids it. How illegal will this be for you to buy one...is only up to you. All ES processors are good overclockers.

I'm hoping the price stays low enough. I wonder how far my P5GD1 would take it.

That would be a sweet deal, from what I have heard the 900 series Dual cores are all actually the same base chip with a different multiplier, and if you can unlock it "the hard way" a 920 is the same as the what 950 or w/e the top model is... So turn in turn they charge you more for changing one number in the chip when they burn it... They limit their own equipment from its full ability, kinda funny but it makes the money.

its called binning, same thing every chip maker does.

the axp 1700+ tbred-b was the best example of this 2.3+gz on every 1700+ tbred-b sold.

why did amd do it, more demand for lower numbered/priced procs, the sames true for the x2 1mb cache chips anymore, they are the same core as the opterons, just in many cases binned lower because they sell more lower chips then opterons.

and the FX chips are just the cream of the opteron crop with an unlocked multi, anymore the opterons (90nm) are all highe enought quilty to hit fx speeds/clocks they are just multi limmited.

ES intel chips are just multi unlocked, my buddys got an ES pressy, things HOT AS HELL, and dosnt overclock for shit even with extream water cooling(over500 for the water cooling componants alone)
