Nintendo Wii helps man lose weight

The Nintendo Wii has been getting some bad press as of late, with the (formerly) weak wrist straps rumored to have lead to a class action lawsuit. However, after six weeks of owning a Nintendo Wii, a proud owner has noticed something. After not changing his diet (actually eating more for the holidays), and working the same hours, he's lost nine pounds. This is very likely to be the first time a video game system has helped anyone lose weight. All 25 year old Mickey DeLorenzo had to do was play Wii Sports for 30 minutes a day, and watched himself get thinner. You can read the full blog, complete with graphs and before/after pictures, here.

You kind of had to figure this out when Nintendo announce the Revolution (Wii) was going to be totally interactive with the individual. I thought then as I do now, that it is a great selling point for the system. Its actually A brilliant move and one Im glad Nintendo made. this is another reason Im getting a Wii. Its fun and a workout. ::rofl::

Thats awesome. Most video games encourage sitting in place. That usually leads to mass intake on soda and doritos for hours on end. This could even be a selling point for the Wii that nintendo didn't originally intend for. This isn't the first time that people have lost weight due to video games. A few years back I saw a blog of a guy who lost 60 pounds playing Dance Dance Revolution at home.

Wrist straps breaking?! WAIT UNTIL PEOPLE START BREAKING FLOORBOARDS IN THEIR HOMES and going through the floor/ceiling. I once used to use a rope in the house... until (after about 3 days), I went through the floorboard! LOL

theres a certain girl i know with a wii, and me and her wii all day long on weekends. So far, we've not even had the slightest hassel with the wii controller, and for everything but tennis we dont even bother with the wrist strap.

You need to be swinging it really hard, have a poor grip (very possible for young/old people) or just generally be screwing around in order to toss the wiimote through your TV

Edit: oh yeah, and we've lost some weight too :P not to mention its dayumn hot watching her swing her booty around doing the wii fitness test of a morning...

Well, at least some positive health news for the Wii, unlike a radio station killing someone in that Hold You Wee for a Wii contest...

If you play Wii Boxing correctly and you're about 10 rounds in you'll be feeling it. By the time you're done you will want to give your arms a rest for a few.

The boxing is certainly the thing that needs most energy. If you get into the baseball that can wear you out a bit though. Bowling, golf and tennis aren't too bad though.

The kung fu game on the Eyetoy was great. The whole idea about the Eyetoy was nice, but it couldn't ever really have games with depth. Because the Wii still has the elements of a normal controller with all the buttons and an analogue stick, it allows games like Zelda and Red Steel, which the Eyetoy could never do, yet it still involves movement.

Wii is so fun, my shirt was drenched after about 10 boxing matches. I suppose next Wii will have leg sensors? That would be cool for running etc, but yeah I bet your floor would wear through, or some might kick their TV stand.

I do not buy that people are breaking the straps it is pretty hard to lose the controllers, people just want $$$ which they wont get much in class action. I do bang them together though sometimes when I am throwing punches.

This is going to become a class... Bring your wii's and some "trainer" teaches you how to use them...

I say we just let nature takes its course. Eventually someone will win a darwin award by dying in a fire they started because they threw their Wiimote. Oh it will be a happy day in hell when that person comes a knockin.
