well.... asus owns asrock... so whatever...

but does this mean even high end boards like mine wont be able to run vista ultimate? or does it mean that they dont cost an arm and a leg because it doesnt say "certified" on the box?

Asus marketeering at it's best...

Yes Asus bought Gigabyte and they also own Asrock.

Unfortunately for consumers, Asus has gone on a exponential growth campaign that has resulted in many documented defective mobos and other electronics. At one time Asus was the top rung in mobos but those days are long gone. They have also PO'ed their Asian partners with their latest line of Asus branded laptops that are actually other companies designs... Asus obviously is looking out for number one at the expense of it's customers and suppliers. It's no wonder their mobo sales have slipped badly.

Obviously no one needs a Vista approved mobo to actually run Vista. It's all a marketing scam. Why anyone would desire to use Vista is beyond me, but you certainly don't need Vista "certified" hardware.

I guess its a reassurance (price gouge really) to those buying to make sure everything is Vista compatible. You do have folks out there like that, that like to make sure everything is kosher and meshes and works well together.

This is the exact same thing as SLI/Crossfire certified memory modules.
But instead of paying extra for painted heat spreaders you are paying for the Vista logo
