RAM question
My mobo was MSI 865PE Neo2. I also bought the Geil dual channel 512MB DDR500 (PC4000)at the same time. I did not know the mobo recommend use only DDR400 (DDR433, DDR466, DDR500 and DDR533 are recommend for OC spec only). I installed it, and now I wondering that is there any problem to my mobo or my RAM when I don't want to OC it? I'm planing to upgrade my RAM to 1G. What should I do? Still buy DDR500 or change to DDR400?My mobo only recgnize at 400Mz. What happend to another 100Mz?
Please help! |

All DDR1 mainboards only support up to DDR400 (PC3200) memory, you can install memory thats faster but the mainboard will limit your speed down to what it can handle. The benefit of faster DDR1 memory is tighter timings for the OC-ers but thats about it. I would say that if you arent that big into OC-ing then stick with good DDR 400 memory to save money.

the DDR500 you bought will work fine and it showing as 400mhz is normal. basically it has alot of overhead for overclocking. So say you turned your FSB up to 250 your RAM would run at 450 and be stable.
