Problem with DVD writer set-up?

I've just bought a Pioneer DVR-111DBK writer and I think installed it right, but I can't get it to write at 16x. It's also connected to a DVD rom. The new DVD writer is set as the master and is it at the far end of the cable, and the DVD rom set as slave underneath. Is this the correct set up?

Also, the DVD rom will no longer play dvd's properly, it plays them but the picture jumps. I bought a new IDE cable 'cause the one originally was pretty old, thought this might of solved it but had no luck.

Any ideads appreciated.

Cheers

Sounds about right, as far as how you hooked things up, but I would have TRIED @ least to put them both as master, on separate cables (not always possible, I know, especially IF you have other disks)

I would test it w/ out the "slave unit" hooked up, & AFTER I installed ANY 'chipset specific' drivers for the IDE bus (like NForce chipsets have, & possibly VIA, but I can't recall anymore what's in the "Hyperion 5-in-1" package anymore).

* Good luck, hope that helps (on the chipset drivers part mostly).

(Also, sometimes, it is the media you are writing to... it may say it's rated @ 16x, but when 'push comes to shove' & you actually TRY it? It's "no-go"... I've had it happen! Spending more sux, but maybe trying another oem's DvD rewriteable/write once disks might be part of the problem to check here)

APK

P.S.=> Power MAY be an issue too... does your power supply give enough yield to support this extra drive being hooked up? Disks of any kind usually are pretty large "power consumers"... apk
