AMD Releases DTX Specification

AMD has officially announced its DTX specification. DTX is an open industry standard specification initiated by AMD to help enable the broad adoption of small form factor quiet and desktop-friendly PCs. All DTX motherboards will have two expansion slots. Motherboard manufacturers are free to decide the configuration of these expansion slots, which can be PCI, PCIe or both. DTX motherboards will receive power via 24-pin power connector and auxiliary +12v 4-pin connector as standard ATX motherboards too. Other final mechanical specifications of the DTX form factor are available on AMD’s DTXPC website.

Bingo!
Also will be an excellent choice to bundle with their HDMI enabled(supposedly) new line of ATI cards.

They should QUICKLY replace v1.0 with DTX v1.1 which has a 1x PCIe (version 2) socket onboard. Either to the side of the PCI (requiring a shift of all components). Alternatively, just a PCIex1 sitting somewhere, for a device that DOESNT require an output... or small output that can be cabled out of the box. Alternatively, a minPCI and PCIe sockets in place of PCI.

BTX wasnt so hot ::drum ding please :::rofl::: but it served its purpose with the hotter procs. DTX looks like it can be quite a hit and I see shuttle using these on alot of their htpcs.

What about FLEX ATX boards? They use to be all over and where pretty close to the same size as DTX. MDTX should gain some space in the custom PC market rather fast be close to ITX but with standard component capabilities.

How about a motherboard thats like 20" x 20" and you cut it down to the size you need hahaha....reminds me of this thing I read on some forum once, kid cut up part of his 6800Ultra AGP or something to that note, to stick into a PCIe16 slot

DTX seems like a good idea though. It is similar to other things that were out not too long ago though isn't it?

I think he cut up his (then brand new) 6800 to fit into the AGP... you can't get much more retarded than that.
