I think people understand the difficultly, but they just don't care, as things appear to run so smoothly at this point. What everyone fails to see is the forum runs smoothly cause of mods fixing the problems so fast, not that there are no problems.

yes. and when we do poke people for being a problem, they assume they're being singled out and everyone else is being ignored, and thus 'bullying' them.

Well the way we solve that problem is public infractions. It would be a deterrent for other problem makers, and it would make the person embarrassed. Well not counting Mailman I think it would work...

yeah its a fine line to walk there, because that adds to the punishment for some.

I can see where people would get all whiny about it, but it would ensure they would never do it again (or at least think about not doing it again). Also, lets face it, you probably have a lot more repeat offenders than just first time offenders. If the person went out and posted something that got them an infraction, then they should show it publicly.

It would work...

Hello again,

Look, I am not posting to get into a debate about this, I was just wondering; it is just a post to put forward a question (basically to the Mods, S mods, staff, and whoever decides on these things):

Are some threads pushing the TPU limit; and shouldn't they really be posted on GN?
Ex.:Exclusive Apple Dating Site Gaining Popularity. It is just one example and I am not picking out anyone.

It is sad though, at least to me. GN could use the posts.

Like rants about " I get scr*wed by No-name or company and I want revenge" could go there.

Oh well, thanks Mussels. Would be nice to be able to though(what you said).

It can still be moved to the old GN forum.

I have a small problem with the forums. Very often new threads show up as already read. For example, last time I visited was yesterday, and during that time there was a new reply in one of threads I subscribed to. When I opened control panel today, the thread didn't show anything new (grey icon). What's wrong? By this I miss a lot of stuff, because logically I don't read everything everytime, I just check for new stuff.

It happens to me quite often, but I believe the reason is that I visit the forums often to respond to PMs but don't check threads. It's a vBulletin problem you're having, I believe.

greetings, fellow aquatic being.

I think danish has it right, that visiting the forums even briefly (or perhaps even the news page) would reset what is 'new'

Strange, I never have that problem, whenever I re-visit, if a new post has been added to one of my subscribed threads, it always shows in bold in my user CP without exceptions, you sure it couldn't also be to do with how your browser is set for "Browser History"?

Hm, I could understand it if I opened the forums without checking anything, but it is not so. I don't even have them in any tab, so that they would count restart of Opera as a refresh. Weird.

I've noticed this before, basically it would "mark all posts as read" when I would view the forums when I was not signed in. Once i'd sign in there wouldn't be any "new" posts.
That's happened quite regularly and I'm using FF.

it kinda of does the oposite to me, instead of not showing new threads, it'l show a thread, i read it, go away then comeback and it'l show the same thread with no new content as unread?

if i open up the usercp for the the first time that day it will show me the updated threads. if i dont click on the those threads and then refresh the usercp a few minutes later those updated threads are gone if they have not been updated during that brief time.

lol Strange thing indeed. It happens quite the opposite to me. Often times, threads that I have already visited appear on bold again if I return later. At first I thought it was because of edits, but unless those edits are only for spelling changes and made several minutes later, that's not the issue. i.e I quit the thread and 15 mins later someone spell checks one of his posts.

Nope. I should clear them out far more often than I do, in fact.

Seems a random "issue" tbh and doesn't bother me. The issue is probably on my end. It was just funny that the opposite happens to me. Well tbh I don't know if the other thing has ever happened to me, I think that I always click on every link, even if I'm not interested in responding. And if I do, but don't have time at the moment, my extremely good memory serves me well to know where it was.

EDIT: Simply closing Firefox and entering TPU again makes topics go bold.

this happens to me alot and it's annoying

I also have a problem when I log on in a different computer, the user CP doesn't show any threads even if it's supposed to. ie: I log onto another computer and it will show the threads

but its not as annoying as all threads disappearing from user CP after 1 visit
