or, you could get you a 1950Pro now or if you can find one and they are out, the dual core 1950 pros. DX10, while great, isnt really being taken advantage of. Unless you must get Crysis, Id go with the 1950 pro for now. They OC like mad and are great boards. Its the next one Im getting before I go DX10 and Vista.

Direct X 10 has to do with the new hardware coming out. The short of it is it should increase the detail and realism in games. Currently only windows Vista supports direct x 10 applications (games).

DX10 card out now is Nvidia's 8800 series. ATI's DX10 hardware has been delayed.

And crysis is the ONLY DX10 'game' out now (i think).

Crysis is Cryteks new game, the designers of Far Cry. Should be the 1st DX10 game?
Unless your going to go the Vista route, DX10 is a moot point!

thats why he should wait whats the point on getting a 1950PRO then having to get a new DX10 card

cuz he wants it to last so he should wait and see how the new ATI's cards compare to the Nvidia's cuz hes going to have to move to Vista in the future

quasar923 cuz is there games that the X850XT cant play or something cuz if you can still game its better to wait and get a better card thats what i think

id wait for the R600 just because it seems like it is going to be one bitchin' of a card! plus even if you won't be taking advantage of dx10, you could still take advantage of the Gig of GDD4 RAM!

I'm just waiting for the R600 cards.

Reasons:

-Nvidia prices will drop
-ATI will give Nvidia more competition - possibility of prices dropping further on ATI's side too.
-More cards will be on the market, giving a wider range to choose from and more comparisons available.

All of this is only 2-3 months away.

Well, he wanted an upgrade. Is DX10 even worth it this year is what Im interested. As stated, its just my opinion. But personally, I think DX10 is overhyped right now. If you wait for the R600, and see the current prices drop, you may change your mind.

you can get a x1950xt for $199 @ newegg right now, that's what I'd do

I really doubt we'll see Crysis/dx10 for another 6 months at the earliest.

I picked up HIS 1950pro because it was cheap ($209.00) to hold me over for all this DX10 hype. Although Vista and DX10 will end up being the standard soon enough, still to many bugs, as far as driver issues, and no titles to take advantage of it yet!

I'd go for the 8800GTS 320mb card. Similar price for many of the top DX9 cards. That or wait till R600 is out, which won't be till At least April since ATi pushed the launch. Come March though Company of Heroes, and Supreme Commander will have DX10 updates, making them the first DX10 games on the market, followed by Crysis in the Early summer or late Spring.

I'd also recommend the X1950XT.
Although, I don't mind the NVIDIA options as well.
