F-22 Raptor running on Windows?

I am really sorry for posting a headline like this because this is a dead serious issue Lockheed Martin und Boeing are being faced with. Today CNN reported on television that every fighter lost all navigation and communications when they crossed the international date line. These problems remind me of some bugs discovered around the turn of the year 2000, which would rather not come to my mind when thinking about the world's most expensive stealth fighter (361 million US Dollars per unit!).

even a leak, it shouldnt happen. The military has routines for ensuring non disclosure of information in events like this. And usually people that leak information dont survive very long lol. The government will have their ass in some way, shape or form

if this is true, then the situation is quite amusing, but one should't really laugh about it seeing as how people and pilots stake their lives on such things...

though it is hard not to laugh about it...

edit:
i must say though, that i find this story very hard to believe after delving into it a bit deeper...
seeing as how an F-22 is entirely dependent on its flight control computers to stay airborne... if those go then the plane would simply fall out of the sky like a rock...

while i agree freebsd is the best OS in terms of stability and performance it does not predate linux by 10 years. freebsd started in 1993.

btw, do you use freebsd daily? im running it on 2 servers and a notebook.

My goodness... those pilots must have been scared shitless. Imagine flying over an ocean, thousands of miles away from land... without ANY navigation. They were VERY LUCKY to have discovered the issue while still having the refueling planes within eyesight.

And lucky they had a communications (radio) system going. Imagine if that had gone too!

According to ONE news report... it was due to "bad weather". LOL. Imagine, fighter planes not being able to fly due to bad weather. LOL. Their excuse is actually WORSE than the real excuse. Software can be fixed. But a plane that cannot fly in bad weather is a plane that cannot fly in bad weather. Not much of an attack or defence system! Imagine: Dear enemy... please only attack in good weather. And to make it even... we will only attack you in good weather. Thanks for your understanding.

Perhaps the U.N. will be asked to implement a new "good weather only" international protocol.

Maybe the US will take global warming more seriously! Not for the environmental benefit, but so that their "good weather" defence system can work. LOL

This made me think for a second most of you believed the F22 uses windows lmao. The military does not use windows in the F22 . . . What garbage. lol, lets not turn TPU into TheINQ, I'd personally like to see more reliable source on stuff like this. Never herd of "The Peoples daily" before, but this news dosen't suprise me technology has bugs even linux.

I'm pretty sure it was sarcasm. He even apologized for it in the original post.

I really hope all of you noticed the question mark at the end of the headline. Of course the fighter planes' operating systems don't have anything to do with a Windows OS! I thought the news message made it clear why I presented that ironic headline...

I was so going to rant and rave. THe F-22 has its own prebuilt OS, based I am pretty sure on a UNIX system.

But I won't rant and rave. Because everyone seems to know it's BS, and whatever OS they do use, im sure isnt entirely public knowledge.

Yep, Windows has to be the cause. We all know Windows is the only OS that crashes./sarcasm

Taking cheap shoots at Windows is a great way to start a flamewar though.

In all honesty, I get about the same number of actual OS crashes on my OSX and Linux boxes as I do on my WindowsXP boxes.
