NVIDIA to Launch GeForce 8600 Series on April 17th
NVIDIA is set to launch the mainstream 8600GTS (G84-400) and 8600GT (G84-300), as well as the 8500GT (G86-300), on the 17th of April. The GeForce 8600GTS and 8600GT will have 256MB GDDR3 memories onboard each, both sporting a 128-bit memory interface but no HDMI yet. The GeForce 8600GTS is meant to replace the 7950GT and 7900GS, while the latter will replace the 7600GT. The 8500GT aims to replace the 7600GS.
The 8600GTS will be clocked at 700MHz core / 2GHz memory and comes with dual D-DVI, HDTV, HDCP, but requires external power. Price is estimated between US$199-$249. Another mainstream model, the 8600GT, will be clocked at 600MHz core / 1.4GHz memory and has 2 variants; one with HDCP (G84-300) and the other without (G84-305). This model doesn't requires any external power. It will be priced between US$149-$169. The last model meant for the budget segment is actually a G84 core but downgraded to meet the value segment pricing structure. The 8500GT will be clocked at 450MHz core / 800MHz 256MB DDR2 memory and comes in 2 variants; one with HDCP (G86-300) and the other without HDCP (G86-305). The 8500GT should see a retail price between US$79 to US$99. The 8300GS, which will be released towards the end of April, is expected to replace the current 7300 series. The NVIDIA 80nm G84 and G86 line-up will meet head on with ATi's DX10 65nm offerings, where the mainstream RV630 is slated to arrive in May and the value RV610 is slated to arrive earlier in April. ...So its true right? Or is this another rumor.
Kudos to nvidia if it is true though, but ATI's midrange is better.

Thats impossible.
nVidia isnt going to launch 80nm mainstream cards while their high-end cards are still 90nm. If this is true, then that means that we will see the 8900's before April 17th. If its not true, then these will still be 90nm. |

That isn't impossible, in fact it has happened before. The 90nm 7300 series came out about a month before the 90nm 7600 and 7900 series hit the market. |

Sounds like a good deal to me. And I don't see why it's impossible for the cards to be 80nm, everyone knew they were shrinking it. Chances are they will hold the 8900 series cards until the R600 is out, to actually compete with the new product release.
Hope nVidia will get is drivers into even better shape, and by the end of the year we will have a market with reasonably priced cards ranging everywhere.

Aren't you technically arguing his point?
If he said the 7300 series came out a month before the 7600 and 7900 90nm versions, and you say the 7300GS came out 2 and half months before the 7900, and the 7300GT over a month after the 7300GS....isn't that the same thing as the 7300 series coming out about a month before?

another example would be the 1950 pro being 80nm while the xt/xtx is 90nm

Yeah, it's easily possible, I see no reason why they wouldn't be able to do that. Besides it wouldn't make sense to release the 8900 until right before, at the sametime, or until right after the R600 bigger guns come out.

Nice to see they are offering midrange cards. Still though, Im not a fan of 128bit interface, and I dont care if its midrange or not. 256 bit should be the norm

i have a question why 6800 ultra performs better than 7600gt in almost all games at resolutions like 1042*768 simply due to bandwidth 256 bit matters a lot

Why? AMD did it with the brisbane, max stock for brisbane = 5000+ = 2.6Gig, the 90nm 6000+ (Windsor) comes in at a stock of 3Gig.

In my experiences with both as an example, the 850XTPE was at least a good match for the 1800XL which it beat in most benches (but not all).

ATI is Better.... NO nvidia is better........... who gives a crap. why do all these forums have to turn into a bunch of kids moaning about who is better. Can't we have a seperate little area somewhere for those kids to go to and moan...
You buy the best card you can afford to play the games the best res as you can afford, if you like ATI buy ATI if you like NVIDIA buy NVIDIA... I Like ati only because I like ati, doesn't mean I need to get on every single friggin forum about video cards and write ATI is better............ It really is a pain in my ass.......... Thats feels better
