Will 450W be enough juice??.....
Im doing a build for a friend of a friend (lol), his budget was originally £400 (just the case and contents) but weve gone slightly over budget by £50 (as he was offered a good 2nd hand c2d mobo that was practically new)
I picked most of the components but he wants a certain case for his sytem. The case he has picked comes with a 450W PSU but Im not sure if it will be enough power?? (I know generic PSU's are not the best thing in the world but Im trying to do his build on a budget and save him some cash) These are the specs (bare in mind that he will not be overclocking at all and everything will be run at stock settings): Case & PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=125284 CPU: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=112704 RAM: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=63618 x2 GFX Card: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=118618 ROM: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=116255 HDD: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...uct_uid=112227 MoBo: I cant remember what model exactly but Im sure its an ECS one. So what do you think, will he have enough power??

If it smells funny when under load put it in the bin and get a proper PSU, that cpu (mostly) and gfx card will like the juice I fear!

Na that PSU should be HEAPS if it has good amps on the 12V rail.
If i can run an X800XT PE (running @ higher than X850XT PE speeds) and a P4 2.6 @ 3Ghz on a 200W with 10A on the 12V rail, you can do this

That was my main concern
I personally hate generic PSU's, you cant beat having a branded one

if your thinking of using the psu that comes with the case,i would'nt.i would advise you to buy a quality psu and ditch the one that comes with the case.the case and psu is £30 so how good do you think the psu is gonna be?

generic PSU's arent as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Remember, all products die and stuff....its just that generic ones have a higher likelyhood than a branded one. Ive run generic (since my latest rig where i dont wanna risk it) and they have never died on me or faled in any way...and im talking about a PSU and case worth $20 AUD

Well done with the X800 etc on that 200W psu, I had a mobile XP 2500 running in an EQ3702a at> 2.4GHz with a 9800XT, 2 optical drives and 1Gb of HyperX with a 200W psu but it was an Enermax and I had no fear that it would pop a Cap' in the Soltek's ass I'd be VERY weary of running that gfx card at those sorts of speeds with that psu with it's 10A on the 12V rail, ask W1zzard about that-I reckon he'd also be concerned!

LOL its actually been running perfectly for a good 6 months now
And the PSU is the one that came with the case (Abit digidice)BTW - i game and benchmark on it too...hasnt crashed at all *touch wood* Its got: 2.6Ghz @ 3.0Ghz ABIT IS-50 mobo 1GB PC3200 RAM (@ like PC3500) X800XT PE @ 540/600 80GB HDD (HAD a 40GB in there too...only took it out recently due to not needing it) DVD burner Card reader HAD a TV tuner card which was taken out with the 40GB HDD Nice sized LCD display on the front. (Overclocks are only used when im having a LAN party/all day gaming day, or for benchies)

http://www.journeysystems.com/power_...calculator.php I suggest you low power lot check those links out, decent amps will be required for thirsty cards remember, I think about 18A on the 12v rail was recommended for the 9800 series back in the day but correct me if I'm wrong
