which hardware monitor should i use?

Use whichever one you feel the most comfortable with. For me there is no "best hardware monitoring tool" they all have their advantages and disadvantages. You can give systool a try. It will monitor your hard drive, motherboard, CPU, and video card temperatures if all of your hardware is supported. You shouldn't have to pay for a monitoring program. All of the freeware ones are as good or better than the ones you can pay for.
The two I use the most are: Systool Speedfan
