Did you test to see if your card could handle the clock speeds first?

yes, i've been running my card at the xt speed (412/365) for days now. even overclock this thing to 430/375 for hours before i flash. think i might be using the wrong bios.

Try flashing with a sapphire XT BIOS instead of GeCube.

Yes, Try several different bioses. Since you have an R360 and it is stable at 412/365, you CAN flash it to an XT. BTW, many people have flashed Sapphire w/R360 to XT.
The Sapphire PCB is identical to the Ati reference board, so you might want to try an ATI Bios. (Sapphire actually builds some of the BBA boards, they built most of the early 9800s)
You should be able to find several bioses at techpowerups bios collection page.
Make sure you use the ones for Samsung memory, a Hynix bios will not work.

thanks, i will keep trying with the different bioses. so far, i've tried these and failed

bb ati 128mb xt bios samsung mem
powecoloer 128mb xt bios samsung mem
gigacube 128mb xt bios samsung mem

do you have to reinstall the catalyst drivers after flash or does this not matter?

Of course you should reinstall the drivers, you should have uninstalled them before you flashed. you are changing the cards Device ID so Windows AND the Catalysts see a different card. I have flashed my Sapphire 9800 to XT and I have tried both the Gecube and the Sapphires BIOS's both work fine for me (tho I have Hynix RAM on mine) now also bear in mind that the RAM (2.8ns) is only rated for 357 (hence why the Gecube one only uses 351) I myself have split the difference on the clocks so I run mine at 412/351 and I believe I am currently using the Gecube Bios with the times edited

INSTG8R, can you tell me where you get your bios? is it the BIOS Collection on this site? also, what version of the BIOS did you use (128MB XT or 256MB XT)????

If all else fails, grab a 256M bios and edit it with radedit ar rabit. also, is your mem 128bit or 256bit? Also modify the new bios to match your old bioses memory timings.

this is my current 9800pro bios, here's the bios dump from ati tools

R360 Hynix DDR 113-A07537-103 BIOS
2004/03/04 09:51

it seems like my samsung memory chips are using the hynix set up, so i downloaded these 2 hynix bioses.

gecube 128mb 9800xt
sapphire 128mb 9800xt

tried flashing my card with these bioses, and the flashes seem to work find with windows restarting properly, without artifacts. the problem is once windows restarted all i see is a blank sreen with the monitor power light blinking which means that it does not receive a signal from the vid card. this was very odd. with the other samsung bioses that i've tried, once the flashed is complete all i see are artifacts and vertical/horizontal bars.

not quite sure what else to try. any feedback is much appreciated.

Use driver cleaner or ati's catalyst removal tool, then install new drivers.
If you can run vga mode, more than likely you have a driver problem, not a bios problem. Windows likes to get confused when you change video bioses. Are you sure it's samsung mem? seems strange that samsung chips would have a hynix bios.

EDIT: As for memory timings, use RaBit. It's really easy to do. I assume you want to match up the mem timings on your old and new bioses??

If you are using windows XP, F8 right before windows loads will give you the advanced menu.
