Alright...for the price they want to charge (and they have to be shitting me to go $1000 for a killer card, its not worth it and I Would never pay that kind of money for one) $730-$750 for a ~10% increase? Are they kidding me? With water cooling or liquid cooling (phase change) you could hit those speeds with the 8800GTX and not spend as much. Nvidia needs to wake up and realize the justice department isnt kidding with them and ATI about the price of video cards.

Seems the only advantages for the Ultra right now are slightly less power consumption and possibly better OC capabilities.

Isn't the 8800 Ultra supposed to be an extremely limited release anyway? I thought they made it just to ensure domination over ATI's R600s, which is why it was released after them. And in order to qualify it has to be retail right? If retail is too high to sell (for the majority) then manufacturing stays low so no real $$ loss.

I think he wants to know if it uses the same board/pcb. I wonder this too, since it prob does... if it is its made from better parts atleast..

The ultra is 10-15% faster and it has even more room to overclock.. from what I read.

If Intel and AMD can command top dollar for their highest end processors, why can't NVidia charge a lot for their top end model ?

Many people have dropped close to that (or more) on SLI or Crossfire setups, and if a single card can complete at a dual card level, isn't it worth a similar amount of $$$ ?

I'm not going to buy one ... just giving it a little thought.

ummm not when it can't compete with sli of the same pricepoint, not even close. as i pointed out for 1000$ you can get the ultra and get 10-15% gain or, got sli gtx's for $1060 after rebate and get 60-70% gain over a single gtx.

Uknow, I've been saying that for years. VC prices are astronomically high. Nobody with haly a PC literate braincell in their body would pay 1k for a graphics card. Nvidia and ATi both need to stop using crap PCB designs and reduce the size of their graphics cards, power requirements and prices. Those reasons are largely why I have never bought a top flight card, always 2nd or 3rd best, as usually by the time its OCd, I saved myself a nice chunk of change and got performance thats comparable to a much more expensive card.

that is amazingly stupid, the price on the card is hughe, wonder what the 8900 uptra will be like 1200+, could built a very good system for 829, with dx10 card, no way, maybe if they steped it down by 35 to 40% maybe, obviously go down on the gtx too

If the R600 was as good as ATI had said the 8800Ultra would have come with better specs...Since the R600 seems to be a complete failure Nvidia had no reason to tweak the 8800Ultra more.
Indeed for 2-5fps more and 200$ up in price it aint worth it.
