16GB SDHC card by MICRODIA

The company called MICRODIA is one of the first to produce and sell a 16GB SDHC card. The new lineup will be available in 4GB, 8GB and an insane 16GB inside an SD card package. These are currently quite expensive, as it will sell for around 2,600€ (3,500$, 1,800£) and will be available in Japan at the end of the month.

16 GB in what looks like a tiny, thin, flimsy piece of plastic. Somebody pinch me.

First of all, what does the HC stand for in SDHC? Secondly, who would pay $3500 USD for a measly 16gb card, when you can get that much for a shit load cheaper.

Secure Digital High Capacity = SDHC.
Another thing worth noticing is that the cards are rated 160x speed so the read speed should be around 24MB/s which is really fast

You can not get more than 16GB and certainly not cheaper in those MicroSD cards. If you're a professional photographer this is very goodt hing. The thing is the size of a stamp and almost as thin.

yes you can get a 16GB card for cheaper. Maybe not SD, but MMC or Compact Flash or something. Hell, even USB drives. So yes, you can get 16gb for cheaper. Im glad someone at least told me what that was, but still no reason to pay that much for a SD drive.

What exactly are you arguing? YOU CAN NOT GET 16GB OF SD FOR CHEAPER OR ANYTHING LARGER. Obviously you can get 16GB of anything else cheaper, I can buy a terabyte hard drive for less than 1/3 the cost. What kind of stupid logic is that? Just because you think it's overpriced and see no reason, doesn't mean there isn't. You do realize how small those cards are, yes? There is a definite market for it; cellphones, pdas, smart phones?

look, now you are just making me mad. Im not arguing with you or anything. My original point was saying that is extremely over priced. Not only for the size, but also as an SD. Granted, the read speeds are fast and it holds 16gb, I just dont really see anyone paying that much for it. Not even for the cell phones, pdas, etc. Perhaps the only ones are high priced professional photograpers. Im glad you find it useful and within your budget, I simply made a comment on what was posted. Dont like it, dont read or ignore it, plain and simple

As I Stated, and you quoted I was talking about other forms of media, most of which a cellphone or pda or whatever can take. Again, I will state, that is way too much money to pay for a piece of plastic that holds 16gb of data.

Again...not to be a butt or anything, and I will apologize..but I Was stating my opinion.

i very highly doubt anyone is going to put a $3,500 SD card in their cellphone, or pda, or smart phone.

most of those devices don't even break the $500 mark price wise

the only real market for it is professional photographers that have $45,000 cameras that need to have 16gb sd cards, but then most of them would probably be happy with 2 8gb sd cards for half the price and just switch cards every once in a great while

wow $3500 for a flash disk in sd form. i thought ssd's were expensive, this is crazy. the only thing i can see this is good for is-high end digital photography (8 megapixels and up, taking like 3 pics per sec) it isn't enough memory for hd recording, that's better left to a traditional hdd, at least until they roll out something like dual, maybe triple layer mini bd or hdvd

16GB SDHC will be a prefect solution for entry level professional camera such as Nikon D80 couple with 18-200mm VR lens. It will be very convenient for travelling.

However, 4 X 4GB of SD card will cost around USD200, if one don't mind storing extra card during travelling.

Don't get SDHC and SD cards mixed up, they are two different formats, and are not compatible with each other, the only thing in common is the SD form factor.

SDHC are intended for high capacity, high data throughput applications such as digital SLR cameras, and the device HAS to specify that it is compatible with SDHC. Even USB card readers will not work with SDHC unless it is certified to do so. SDHC is an alternative to Compact Flash cards which currently dominates SLR digital media.

Yeah, Zalmann, I did get that. V7100 just said, "4 X 4GB of SD card will cost around USD200,4 X 4GB of SD card will cost around USD200" and I was just pointing out some cheaper ones. I understand that they are a different format from SDHC.

Also here's a link to cheap 4GB SDHC cards: http://www.ecost.com/Detail.aspx?EDP=35368374
~$30.

Not bad deals considering I paid ~$40 for a Patriot 2GB at Fry's about 6-7 months ago. Poor Gp2X cannot take SDHC cards...
